Default Speedbumps (what scrapes first?)

So i have to go over these hellacious speedbumps to get to my g/f's house. The first couple go well, i ease over them as slow as possible until i get to the third one. Of course it looks about the same height as all the others and im easing over and when the front tires touch the cement, i hear it. This awful scrape sound to the front right a bit and i even feel the vibration in the shift ****!

It sounded way too metallic to be any part of the body so it has to be somthing under the car and i was curious (and a bit worried) to what it was that scraped. Ever since then i go over the speed bumps crookedly and nothing scrapes.

I havnt had time to really look under the car well so i was wondering if anyone knows what hangs the lowest under the car and what got raped by the speedbump?

I think it's the cross brace (or whatever it's called)

Are they very wide speed bumps?
If you dropped it an inch or more that sound could be your tranny.
A friend has that happen to him constantly.

Why don't you spend the time looking under the car instead of posting this? It would help you more than us telling you what may have been scratched.

From my own experience, my flex pipe in the y-pipe was badly damaged to the point where you can see what's in the flex pipe. The plastic shield that's directly underneath the engine was also slightly scratched. Everything else was fine for me.

thats why I took a pick to the one in my appt complex to bad they went back and fixed it a month later

But if you have a lower car or kitted car, you have to be very mindfull of were you drive.

And I think depends my sides usually hit first but thats the lowest part on my car

Just check under your car and see if theres a major scrape somewhere under it. Either get the "air ride" suspension system, drive fast over the 3rd bump so you only hear a scrape for 2 seconds, park at the corner and walk over to your girls place.

Maybe someone else will gain from this thread if they too are wondering what is scratching when they go over speed bumps? I apologize I have not had allot of free time and I posted this when I wasn’t too busy (which isn’t very often). Between school and everything else going on in the day, the only time I’m home is at night and as cold as it is (and as busy I have been) I haven’t had the time to jack the car up and check things out. Work and homework seem to take up what time i -do- have at night. Also, as anyone knows, trying to mess with cars when it’s freezing cold and dark outside is no fun.

I figured someone else on here could give me and answer and I could provide a thread for anyone else that was curious to what was rubbing when they went over a tall speed bump, especially since I searched and came up with nothing.

Haha, im working on that! I can only imagine the havok those speedbumps would cause if i got my car kitted and lowered. In that case though i'd make her walk...

Get a few bags of cement and make the speed bump a speed hump...or you can get a jackhammer and reduce the speed bump to a speed pile of powder.

OP, I understand that you may be busy. But as I've said already, it's more beneficial to you to actually take a look at it.

And I told you that from my experience, it was my y-pipe and a few others mention it as well, so be sure to check yours.

On my car? The high-flow catalytic converters take a beating. Here is a method that you might try: drive over the bump at an angle not head on.

For a second there, I though you where talking about your future in-laws; I was going to chime in and say the mom is usually the hardest one to drive over

If you drop your car you gotta tackle the bumps differently man. Angle your approach instead of head on. It also helps if you get one wheel over at a time. Getting a dropped car over speed bumps and imperfect roads is an art form. It takes practice and patience In my old car, I was so slammed I had to adjust my route around town just so I can avoid under carriage damage
