The fastest Z on this board is an auto.......

Mine's an AT, didn't have much choice though since I was shopping for a pre-owned Z. I wanted a touring for the leather and nav, and almost every one I found used had AT.

I was all about a stick until I took a ride in my uncles 550WHP AUTOMATIC 300zxTT. Its a DD that he drag races, never gets irritated by traffic, never misses a shift, has consistant E.T.'s, never stalls, never has a sloppy takeoff, AND whips the azz of manual trannys whenever he wants. I asked him if it made him feel like less of a man because he runs low 11's in an auto. He replied you never feel like less of a man when you punish a worthy challenger. Would it matter if you had a stick if you challenged a girl in a pink automatic civic (with lots of mods) and lost? Do what works for you and don't hate on what works for others. Auto drivers might want to massage the thigh of the honey dip sitting next to them Just my $.02

Yes it is a different automatic transmission but manual guys for you to run that much power you to have to for sure beef up your transmissions also so you are no longer close to being on stock transmission internals. If the manual transmission is so superior then why would you change to a auto to get faster times. Just take a fast glimpse at the 1/4 mile times for z's and you will quickly notice that the 6 speed drivers times get smashed by a auto lol so funny.
First of all we're talking about stock or lightly modded Z's here. And I'm in no way disagreeing with your theory because yes technically an automatic can (and stress can) be faster than a manual if the stall is right for the launch and so on and so on. But in stock cars the manual will be faster 95% of the time because of driver error.

I would have to disagree with you, but your right in some senses if you where talking about 5 years ago technology. Nowadays german cars or european cars in general are building auto transmissions that can out perform manuals. and this isn't on just the high end models.

Well, if auto is "just as good" or "better" than stick, then why would one try to make the shifter LOOK like a manual? Is there some mystique or cred that goes with driving a manual? None?

If not, I would say show the automatic shifter bold and proud and let the world know that your car is an auto, and don't try to mask the shifting console with a leather boot. Be auto, be proud!

I always had a manual in my Mustangs and the same goes for the 350. I just enjoy hammering into the shift gate, makes me feel more connected to the vehicle and what it's doing; just a personal preference. I've never driven the auto in these cars so I don't have any idea what it's like, but as long as it's better than the FX35's you should all be ok.

Do your research, all multi-gear transmissions have at least one clutch. Doesn't matter if it's an AT or an MT. It doesn't even have to be a car. Even my chainsaw has a clutch. The 5AT has multiple clutches vs the single clutch in the 6MT.

Neither is faster. You shift or the computer shifts. AT's have manual shifting available anyways. People blow this way out of proportion.

Here is the 2 fastest z's on this site first of all its preference what you would rather drive auto or manual my point is that no matter what you say the 2 fastest z are auto's and if they made better parts for the stock auto transmission which i believe is in progress by reading other threads i think it will still hold its own if not beat out the six speed trans. Yes it is fun to drive stick but some people need to wake up to reality you act like its a huge difference or something if you think that you are very funny person. I don't think there are any z's that are running any kind of good horsepower that still have stock z trans either. Automatic is an automatic and manual is a manual no matter what car you throw it in why couldnt they just throw a t56 manual trans in the car instead of the th350 i believe it can hold the power also their is a reason why they put the auto in the car and not the manual.

FASTEST Z'S: AUDIBLE MAYHEM 10.404 ITS A AUTO
BLRDZ 10.697 ITS A AUTO
