Default Suction Camera mounting

Hey. Im very new to this forum, soooo.... HELLO!!! im getting my Z in about 2-3 days, very excited , and id love to shoot a video. When i have learned how to drive the car well, i would love to get a small camera, like a bullet camera, or a very strong camera mount (the camera mount must be able to hold a 6000 dollar camera at about 60mph... ).

here is a basic idea of what im looking to accomplish.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj4tEF5jvmk

All of the exterior shots can be created with basic camera placment. the problem are the exterior onboard camer shots. I have heard of bullet cameras and lipstick cameras, but i do not think they will be able to produce the type of video quality i need. i plan to shoot this video at a very low light situation, so i need something that will be able to capture the xenons of the Z briliantly, and a very little bit of the surroundings.

When i shoot some photos of my Z mobile, ill make sure to post them for you guys. Thanks for any information and i hope i can create a video for all of you guys to enjoy.

Do a search on Google for Vehicle/Automotive camera mounts. There are lot options out there but they can get very expensive. I just sold my set up which cost me $800.

I have that head in that picture, along with everything you need to mount the camera and hold it up to 60mph or even more, That a $4K DVX, but I have mounted a $8k HVX with rails, and mattebox, and was able to get to 50mph before vibrations became apparent. Its not really intended for driving, but I have done so with great results, plus you can pan and tilt while driving if needed

I can sell it for $1300, if you need pictures of the actual unit let me know, the picture above is not mine, also I have someone else that wants it

I have never use the kind of mounting platforms they used on "the run", but I know people that have and can tell you where to get them, but your looking into $3k for a one day rental, just for the platform

For the camera, i believe i may be able to borrow some other mounts from people i know.
Its nice to know that there are other people are interested into this type of stuff. also, i dont have 3k... .

Yeah,Camera stuff is expensive, I just spent $4K on a freaking tripod, yesterday!! I know its hard to shoot anything, when the money comes out of your pocket

Be careful exposing a expensive camera on the outside, you could try mounting on the inside sticking it to the windshield, there are mounts designed for that from Manfrotto, its expensive but maybe you can find a used one
Setting up the camera correctly and using filters you shouldnt be able to even tell there is a windshield in front of it.

If you lived nearby, I would let you use my stuff for free, its just sitting around collecting dust. I got so much camera equipment I never use, it a shame.

do you shoot everything primarily with video equipments? film vs video...what's your preference?
what do you think of the movie "open water" which was shot entirely on videotape.

not entirely sure what your asking

I dont really prefer one over the other, but film has characteristics that are hard to simulate with digital tape. The goal for most digital shoots is to make it look like it was done on film

Using film is expensive, film requires more time, money, and knowledge to get right and should be saved for large budget productions

Mid to Small budget, digital tape make more sense, its much cheaper and allows room for errors to be corrected on a computer if need.

Movies like open water have to use digital tape, there no way to use a film camera in the water and get the shoots they had. I think they used a $4K canon XL1, it weights 5lbs and can roll for an hour per tape.

A 35mm or even a 16mm film camera can cost at least triple, is also triple the size, about 35lbs and runs out of film in 11minutes, taken a good 15min to reload.

There are professional digital camera, used in big budget movies now like
Starwars 3 used a $125K sony digital camera and MI3 used a $85K panasonic, but IMO it wont be til another 3years before digital can compete hands on with film, but still film cameras arent going anywhere.

if i'm not mistaken, Mann shot "Miami Vice" with digital cameras.

yeah, its becoming popular for stylized movies and action movies.
Alot of movies are going digital, your traditional drama films will properly always stick to film.

i read it somewhere that the digital camera Mann used to shoot "miami Vice" had the tendency to break down during the shoot when Katrina hit Miami. Filming delayed for months.

I think he used this camera

or this one

I've used something that looks similar from panasonic but never a sony
Camera problems aren't that uncommon, temperature and moisture will cause problems

i think the canon XL H1 ....shoots 24 frames per sec./full manual control to mimic analog film is listed for $9,000. 20X optical zoom lens included.

Never can go wrong with a tripod, and head they are considered investments, its something that you cant go cheap on. Your camera has to be steady no matter what and after 3-5 years you sell it for 20% s less then what you paid win-win

I never used steadycams devices, personally am more the traditional type where the camera is not obvious , but its not to say they havent been used to great effectiveness
