Ok I’m pretty much and perfectionist and I have the MB 06. I have come to terms with the fact that black is a little hard to keep pristine. So I accepted the spider-webbing on the car now.( planned to fixed). The other day a lady backed into the car. She said her insurance would pay. When the rear bumper is replaced and painted there will be no spider-webbing on it. It disturbs me that when I wash the car I will see a imperfections on the rest of the car. Should I ask the body shop to include buffing out the imperfections in the car to match the bumper? Oh and I also have a clear-bra on the car. Should I include this also, because they may have to take this off to buff the hood and front bumper? I really not trying to be an A$$ hole, but I just want to be happy with the work. If I do not have this want there always be a difference in the bumper and the rest of the car.

 

Sounds reasonable. Have you ever tried Zaino? If not then you really should give it a shot if you care so much about your paint.

 

Eventually your bumper will get swirled to match the rest of your car, good luck trying to get them to pay for removing the clear bra though

 

If she backed into you and did the damage then she should pay for the fix and a new bra. If you are talking about fixing other imperfections elsewhere on the car to match what she did.... Well I am not so sure that is right.

If you are trying to get her to pay for other problems she didn't cause. I misread the post. She backed in to your rear bumper not you front. If some how you get them to include that. I would call that not only being an A$$ but Insurence Fraud

you should just ask her to paint your whole car over so that you are insured a paint match. Then, get her to reimburse you for time spent away from the Z by making her go to work for you while you drive around and enjoy.

 

Yeah i know it seems kinda strange, and maybe the swirls will catch up to the rest of the car, but why should I have to wait for my car to look uniform again.

 

Just learn how to use Poter-cable w/right polish..it may take a while to make your paint look perfect, but it's worth it.
If you are a perfectionist, this little skill should be a definate requirement.

 

It's standard practice for most good body shops to polish the entire car when they complete the repairs. Also, the bra should be covered.

Ignore the zaino comments until you do get a random orbital buffer. You will want smooth paint prior to appliying zaino. Z5 or Z5 Pro won't help much there despite the claims to hide swirls, but will give you a deep, bright shine on smooth paint. No, it doesn't have to be PC, but honestly, as widely used as the PC is, you might as well get it. You can find much more information to support you in your polishing endeavors due to it's widespread availibility and use. As far as which products to use, I like the Menzerna twins (IP and FPII), I had to use both, with just a white finishing pads to remove my dealership installed swirls, but FPII alone is great for follow-on maintenance for me. (every 6 months + on garage kept 5k miles a year car) Wipe all the polish residue off with 50/50 Isopropyl/distilled water and you will be ready for zaino. IMO, zaino should relable their blends so Z2 = light paint, Z5 = dark, not Z5 = swirled paint. I've also heard good things about Zaino and Optimum polishes, but haven't tried either since I am completely happy with Menz.

 

I notice the swirl marks in my SB paint too, but you know what, I think we're the only ones who notices it. People can't see it when you're driving by...

 

Be carefull with air power buffers, can burn holes in your paint. They are the only real way to buff a car, with 3M products.

 

+1 dude it just wouldnt be the right thing to do. If you did that to someone would you be okay with them charging you for those extras? Be honest.

 

why don't you do this, take a scotch brite pad to your new bumper, so it'll match the rest of the car again

 

Karma, you do that and your going to loose the car off the road or something and have to either get a new car or repaint it all on your own money. Be honest.

No not at all here's the fix for ya just take a little sandblasting grit on a rag with some wax and rub the new paint with it till it matches the old paint and walla you just fix your problem.

 

just try Zaino first, don't mind all the other crap being posted here. Zaino works and it is a simple process. You don't need to use a orbital polisher either, just get the stuff and get busy.
