It's all about the tires you use. Rear wheel drive cars can be fantastic in the snow with proper rubber. The VDC and ABS systems in the Z really help too. I drove my Z for two Chicago winters in 03 and 04 and it was great with the Dunlop M3 snows I had...

^ +1 Blizzaks make the Z drive amazingly in winter here in Iowa. Stock tires however, would get you in a lot of trouble.

Just have a look around the forums a bit, you'll quickly see posts of 350z owners wrecking their cars because they were brave/stupid when it was snowing heavily.

+1 on tires! I drove 1 day when a few flurries came through on the stock tires up front and firehawks in the back and it was horrible no traction anywhere. I could barely make it up a slight incline. I put my Dunlop Graspic DS-2's on (225 17" all around) and a full tank of gas and I drove perfectly fine through 3-4" snow. Ground clearance is the limiting factor after that.

+1000000 on tires.

I drove to and from work in the snow here in the Seattle area on my year-old Kumho ASXs (getting a bit thin, with some autocross practices and rain events on the tires as well). No problems at all, you just have to be *careful*.

=1500 on tires..

I have Pirelli winters in the front and Blizzaks in the back..
I would be dead up here in good ol Michigan without them..

Don't be a hero buy the tires, they will last a few winters...

it s not just the tires, guys the z has alot of torque on takeoff, even with good tires and sand bags in the bag it s still pretty risky, here in montreal it s not recommended to drive it,to each there own

Snow and the 350Z has been addressed many times, but you are asking for a comparison. If we took, say a BMW, Mustang and Camaro, and put the same all-season tires, which would perform best? I have driven several rear wheel vehicles in the snow, and although I have no side-by-side test results, I am go to put the 350Z at the bottom of the list.

I would recommend Blizzaks as someone mentioned before. Tread wear could be a little better for the price, but they've saved me a couple times from some tough situations.

Seach. This has been discussed many, many, many... many times.

No way, the Z with its traction control and pretty evenly distributed weight has to be up there. Maybe not the best, but not as bad as my 5.0 Mustang! That thing sucked in the rain never mind the snow, I tried driving it in the snow 3 times and 3 times I almost died…going over 15 MPH in 1 inch of snow was not possible! I’m lucky enough to have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee for the winter so I’ve yet to drive the Z in the snow, but I don’t think it would be as bad as a Mustang.

I took my supercharged M3 out(my beater truck got stuck in the snow...naturally) and it has 255/35-18 Pzero Nero M&S on it. I didn't have a single issue with it, in fact it drove better then my VW with snow tires! God bless limited slip. I can only imagine how easy it would be to drive with snows all around.

The issue people run into as its been pounded into this thread and I'm sure hundreds of other threads, is that People go out in high performance summer tires and then wonder why they are riding on hockey pucks. Properly equipped and having any clue how to drive in snow you will be fine in anything.

Some people just dont realize that summer tires will not work in the snow.
