Default Do you guys drive when it is below 0 outside?

It is easy to notice that most of folks here are prbly from California or Florida enjoying sunshine and >60 degrees all year round, hence are not familiar with northern temps
Although my Z serves as a daily driver all winter, I never drove it in temperatures that low. I drove from the office tonight and it was 5 degrees (nice boost of power BTW). Tommorrow the temps are hitting 0 (-17 celsius)and may even go below that.
I run Motul 300V 5w-30 oil, which is generally ok for low temps.
Any experiences appreciated?

If its freezing, I'm not risking driving my car. I totaled my last car driving in below freezing temperature and it was sunny out! Black ice is hard to see

I run my car year round, its 40 today but last week it was -1 to 2 degrees, no problems at all. All-season/winter tires are a must..... dont even think about going out in your performance summer tires.

Actually, when it is that cold, the streets are dry as a bone.
I am more concerned with engine and moving parts wear/damage...

I used to and had no issues with winter tires, except for the clearance. Now it's been put away till April.

Yep, year round unless there is snow on the streets. Let it warm up a bit (sleeps in an attached garage) and good to go. Stock tires suck in the cold though, be careful. I'm not aware that 0 degree startups are any worse than 32 degrees BTW, just no high revs until it is fully warm.

I believe the recommended temp range of 5w-30 in the 350z service manuals goes as low as -15 degrees.

Wow, Z in Alaska!
You may claim the Northernmost Z !
If your Z survives in Alaska, then mine shall be fine.
BTW, I only run on winter tires in winter, with a lot of slushy-snow days here it would be total carelessness to run summer or all season tires.

sometimes I'd rather take the Z in cold weather because it heats up quick and has heated seats. But usually the wagon is on call for duty in cold/rain/ice/snow.

I live in Minnesota and drive my Z every day. Except when there's more than 3 or 4" of snow on the ground. The coldest I drove it in this year was -29 on the temp display. Below freezing, and when the engine is cold, the gearshift linkage is very reluctant to shift into 2nd (either up or downshifting). Once everything is warmed up, it's fine. I also run on a dedicated set of snow tires and wheels in the winter. To do otherwise in the snow is to invite certain disaster!!!

Yup I drive mine all winter it was -7 or so here last week. I just let it warm up for a few min. Also winter tires are a must, not just because of snow or ice, but because the summer tire compounds become like plastic tires under 30F or so and will have 0 traction on dry ground. Winter tires are much softer and keep their traction capabilities.

I wouldn't leave my house in 0 degrees much less drive the Z. Too cold for my blood.
