Default is it ok to rev up the engine of a new Z??

Hi, Actually i'm an international student from Indonesia where almost all of the people there are using the stick shift. then, i heard from my friend who bought a new car (automatic). he said that we shouldn't rev up the engine for the first 2k miles, coz' the engine is still new... i've been driving for like 6 years and i've never heard anything like that. So, is it true? or is it only for the automatic? i'm really confuse bout this one...

thanks for your answer guys...

Its called break in its a very common well known procedure. Keep it under 4k RPM for the first 1200 miles

Yes. It doesn't matter what car or transmission every engine should be broken in. I can't believe you haven't heard of this before.

doesn't matter if it's manual or auto. if it's new then keep it under 4k rpm for first 1,200 miles.

like the engine is still brand new you have to break it in. What that means is basically dont drive it like you stole it for 1,200 miles. Go like 60mph for the first 1,000 miles. Then get a oil change then rip it apart.

the break-in period sucks. keeping it under 4k rpm is incredibly hard w/ all that torque. 60mph or under is easy.

If you do a search on this site and on Google, you'll see that there is actually a lot of debate on what exactly the proper break-in procedure is. Some sources recommend that you take it easy for the first 1200 miles or so, while others will tell you that you should drive the car how you intend on driving it normally.

Personally, there was no way I was waiting 1200 miles to rev my car up. I didn't follow the car manual's break-in recommendations, and have been told that my car feels stronger than other Z's, and I've got almost 44,000 trouble-free miles on the car so far.

Believe the guys who built your car or believe guys who have nothing to lose by telling you to beat on it. Your choice.

Yeah, ^^^ what they said - make sure to break it in properly. After it's broken in, you can push it hard, but don't forget that regular maintenance is next to godliness.
