First 350Z RB26DETT in the World.
Please excuse me for being a Nissan newb, but what makes this engine so great other than being from the venerable Skyline?
A quick look at the specs says its a 2.6L I6 with twin turbos making 280hp. What is it about these engines that makes them more capable of achieving extraordinary power levels?
What specifically makes this smaller, older engine, better suited to extreme turbocharging applications?
Being a BMW nut (forgive me for mentioning that here) I am a huge fan of the I6 configuration as they are the smoothest engines this side of a V12, but what prevents the VQ V6 engine from equalling these Skyline applications?

RB26DETT, Skyline GTR's motor simply has a ENORMOUS potential of tuning. It has a best reputation of iron-like durable engine. And it is a factory twin-turbo, meaning much more reliable than aftermarket turbo on NA engine.
As you might know, Turbo engines' jumping HP/dollar ratio is hella higher than NA's. Some joke says that 30-40HP is gained simply opening the hood of GTR and shut it
Intake, Exhaust, and ECU tuning can easily make this incredible engine pump out more than 350HP instantly...with some other mods such as Boost controller, Blow-off valve, larger intercooler...it goes well over 450HP...(a little assumtion here, not accurate information tho..)
The engine can sustain up to 900 HPs without major reinforcements. It is made to be like that from the beginning.

So it is going to use the transmission from the skyline? If so, will it be AWD? Also, they will be using the carbon driveshaft. Won't the dimension be different? Will they have to modify the driveshafti?
Now this is something i would jump all over. With no disrespect to the VQ, the RB26DETT is just a dream. I would replace my VQ with an RB26 in a heart beat, no question about it. If this swap can be done, and it looks like its almost there, i will seriously consider doing this swap. I have a load of questions about the install, but i can wait till we get some more info. I cant wait to find out more and see more pics.

But yes, i could pass emissions if we built it to.
If you guys have any interestes in the swap, call batlground and they can help you. The entire swap will run you a good amount of money, but if your serious about it, we can come to some sort of agreement im sure.
The car won't be a AWD car it has the R32 tranny. The company doing the swap is pushing hard to get int the 350 market, I would say they got a good start.
Who wants a 30rwhp supercharger when you can have a RB26

For those wondering why someone would want to put the RB26 motor in our Z's, check out this site for some videos of sick Skylines.

Good luck with the project, this will be interesting.

It does sort of beg the questions though...If the engine is so rock solid and revolutionary how come Nissan hasn't ever shipped them to the US in a production vehicle.
I'm not denying that its a great engine....but why not use it in other vehicles.

I've seen RB26DETT in the neighborhood of $5k so this sounds like a great mod. The initial 5k investment keeps you with approximately the same power as the VQ35 but with the added benefit of much more aftermarket upgrades!
And why hasn't Nissan brought the skyline to the US? I've heard cause of the way the car was designed it made it difficult to convert to LHD. I've also heard emissions and cost were issues as well, the Skyline GT-R is around 80-90k!?!?!?!

I can get you one much cheaper; under $50k
Wow
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice Car! Damn thats a nice car. He used a RB26DETT then converted it to a single turbo, so wouldn't it be cheaper and easier just use the Skyline GTS-T's RB25DET? The RB25DET can still handle 500hp or so w/stock internals. For most people thats plenty. The RB26 is about $7k, but the RB25 is only $4k. Thats an extra $3k for mods! Anyways nice car, I wish I could do something like that, $27k base 350Z, RB25, suspension, lsd, brakes, probably still cheaper than a 350Z track edition.
(and faster)
