This "new" scale that you spoke of was started in 2004, so the 06 would be compensated under this "new" method. But before we get into that....i didn't see anything about the 350z in the article. Unless GM is doing something under the table (like making 350z's). There is another "voluntary" scale to your article, but there is no evidence pointing towards Nissan, saying that Nissan uses this "voluntary" scale. Until you can find me a link saying "NISSAN USES THIS VOLUNTARY SCALE TO MEASURE HORSEPOWER" then you don't have a case. If you read this article closely enough, you'll see plenty of places where they mention these rules are voluntary.

Here ya go. No it says nothing about nissan definitively using the new system, but it's generally accepted knowledge among those of us in the Z community that the new HR engine has roughly 15-20 hp on the old one. This is backed up by early dyno sheets and track numbers. I believe the fastest stock Z in the 1/4 mile is also the ONLY 07 Z that has posted a timeslip. This should really be evidence enough for anyone, that nissan has indeed switched to a new system for measuring horsepower.

YOu know what, nevermind. It's pointless to argue with him.

I meen obviously 6hp = the difference of about .4sec in a 1/4mile. So the 07 runs 13.68(ithink) the first EVER 07 ran w/ a SHT+ITTY 60' time. The BEST ever ran stock Z pre-07 ran a 13.66. The average being 14.

So yah 6hp = .4sec.

The 06 Z actually has 293 hp...They mentioned it somewhere in some article.

It is definitely voluntary and that is why Nissan didn't change the stickers on the 06 that still said 300hp. However they also mentioned that the 07 will be based off the new scale ~306hp. So in reality the engine has 13 more hp.

If you paid any attention to cars in the past couple of years you'll notice that nearly all of them went down in hp bc of this new scale...

I was caught up in the same dilema..but here is what made me get the 07 over the 06. Dual intake, true dual exhaust, and like those in the "know" are already saying, 13 HP over the old engine, not 6. Its a better engine. The only point you can argue is the hood. I didnt like it at first, but so what. Regardless of what hood was on the car I wanted a nice aftermarket CF replacement anyway.

GET THE 07!!!

Here u go. This is generally accepted throughout, not just in the "Z community." This article actually makes a definitive claim supporting my statement. Read it about midway when it talks about the engine output and has the little asterisk (*), then scroll to the bottom of the article and check out the footnote. Notice the date. U can't argue that! Now, everyone's been educated.......

I just now realize that you suck. What is it with you? The 07 is faster smoother has higher redline. Is only $500 more. Will have a tiny bit better resale value. The 07 in general is a better car! Just stop.

You like links? Chew on this: https://my350z.com/forum/drag/233840-top-25-1-4-mile-times-for-tt-st-supercharger-nitrous-bolt-ons-stock.html

By the way, ehem, 800 miles into my 2nd oil change and like the original oil level when I changed it, is rock solid. Isnt there a sticky somewhere about the 06 and oil?

GET THE 2007!

^Let me educate you in real WHP numbers then, why argue paper numbers...they don't do crap but sell cars. this should show you the freaking 20WHP increase.

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/245890-2007-vq-hr-dyno-results.html

^ that is the power that matters, to wheels and you clearly can see the huge difference between the REV-UP and Non-Rev-Up compared to the HR.

And this cracks me up from your myspace..."but my top speed so far is 118 mph. That's fast for most cars"

P.S., any car now-a-days can do 118mph...sooo most cars...more like trucks

Oh ouch, you guys hurt my feelings. Haha, too bad my '06 doesn't have oil consumption problems or i might have been insulted. Anyways, i was out to prove a point and i did. Thats all that matters. Ya'll gotta bring better come-backs than clowning a myspace...if thats the best you got, just don't say anything next time.

I'm not coming on here to insult, just that the myspace thing made me laugh. Your point was about the sae rating, but none of us "enthusiasts" really care...we like to know WHP numbers and the mysterious 20hp is only really seen in actual dyno numbers, again the numbers that matter. Just thought i'd let you know where people are probably coming up with the magic 20 number.
