Honestly, I had the same dilema. I know si has some attractive features.
But at the end, I took my friend's advice.
Civic is just a civic no matter what.
I hope you make a wise decision.

I have a GSR and was afraid of trading it in because I love the handling and nimblness (sp) so I kept it for a beater. Sucks cause the Z is so fun and nice to be in, I drive the Z more than Im supposed to be.
Get the Z

which has better handling?
which has better handling?
Furthermore, having a LSD is not really a plus in most "everyday" cases. They're mainly useful when one wheel loses contact with the pavement or if you are stuck in the mud. Furthermore, the Z uses a "Viscous" LSD which are less efficient than "mechanical" LSDs in that "Viscous" LSDs suffer from a higher percentage of paracitic power loses. "Viscous" LSDs are also prone to overheating, causing the silicone to sieze. LSDs are basically advantageous in off-road or drifting applications. And in either case, "mechanical" LSDs are far superior to Nissan's "Viscous" LSD. So, if LSDs are your "thing" then go with an aftermarket mechanical LSD and problem solved.
Finally, on one hand, the 2006-2007 SI has been clocked by modernracer.com at 15.6 sec in the quarter, and 7.2 0-60mph. The 2005 350Z, on the other hand, has been clocked at 5.8 0-60mph and 14.3 in the quarter. So, your last assertion is also false. 0-60 or the quarter, with an experienced driver on an ideal and closed road, the Z spanks serious ***.
This quesiton of "SI vs. Z" is one that only you can answer. Remember that fastest times reported by magazines and manufacturers may not always be duplicated by your average driver on average road conditions. Also, WHY are you buying a car? What are YOU looking for in a car?
While the Z is a true sports car, it has no rear seats, sun/moon roof, and is thirsty on petrol. The Honda, while underpowered, in comparison with the Z, can get over 30MPG and handles well for a "wrong wheel drive" car. The 2007 SI also comes well equiped for under $22k while a 2005 base Z will cost a bit over $22K. New or used? What's your preference? There are plenty of pluses and minuses on both cars that you can write books about. In making, relatively, large investments such as purchasing a car you have to do your homework and first-and-foremost figure out what you are looking for in a car and find one that matches it. Do not, by any means, pick a car and try to force it to match your expectations and lifestyle--you'll just end up unhappy and hating your car.
I hope this helps.

I'd worry more about cornering when considering an LSD really...
edit: don't get me wrong, I'd love to rock a new Civic Si as a DD, but if you're comparing the two, there simply is none... go for the economy car with a bit of pep, or go for the sports car...
