Default OEM Filters... Nissan should be ashamed...

I purchased one each of the two filters that are specified for the 350Z (15208-65F00 and 15208-9E000) and opened them up to see what they contain. Both appear to contain a paper filter element with a similar number of pleats. The element in the larger filter (-9E000) is roughly 1/2" longer (2.5" compared to 2"). I estimate the surface area to be roughly 25% larger.
The embarrassing part is that the element in the smaller filter is glued to CARDBOARD end caps. The construction was rather uneven to boot... At least the larger filter is supported by stamped metal. The anti-drainback valve and bypass valve appear to be equivalent.
It'll be aftermarket filters in my car from now on. I'll let you draw your own conclusions... here are some pics:
