I agree the Z does better than most, but certainly not better than his other option he mentioned, the S2000. That said, they are 2 totally different cars so you need to test drive as many of each as possible and decide which you like.

I'm on #5 tranny. When I reach 50,000 miles I'm gonna sell it. Warranty ends at 60,000 miles.

Other than that, I love the car !

I've got about 1,300 miles on my new 2006 mt. I'm beginning to hear about transmission problems, on this site. Why is that? The Z is a Japanese car. We shouldn't really have any problem other than having to buy gas.

This is exactly what worries me. Could be quite possible that all the Z's for sale with around that mileage are just fed up with having to get new transmissions and/or are running out of warranty.

Hmmm, could it be that some people's trannys are going out from:

a) abusing them
b) inexperience
c) not shifting properly
d) missing shifts
e) powershifting
f) etc, etc, etc

I doubt it. If true you would not see a disparity between model years. In other words why would 2006 owners be any more abusive than 2005 owners?

And of course we have the mileage factor. If every transmission is the same reliability, Then we find more 2003 owners with transmission problems than 2006 owners simply because 2003 owners have accumulated more miles.

03 here and no problems except a failed driver side window motor which was replaced under warranty. I had the grease streak and axle clicking issues which were fixed for free. Those were nothing more than annoyances that serious issues.

Ok haven't heard much of the 06 transmission problems. Have heard plenty of the 06 oil consumption. I have an 06 ZR with a little over 6k miles with no problems knock on wood.

i dont drive aggressive on the street, i track my car, but havent tracked it since october of last year b4 i put the z in storage. i was driving around 4 maybe 3 weeks w/ the z, getting it all warmed up and ready and the tranny blew. its typical on z's aggressive driving or not.

so judging from this testimony among others, is it fair to conclude that the Z's transmission is a piece?

^^uhhh yea. most definately. plenty off ppl go thru 2-3 tranny's. the 06 i guess is the only z tranny w/out problems. everything from the 03-05 tranny was backwards, and they finally got it righ in 06

I have an 03 with 49,xxx miles and just had my tranny replaced. Tire feathering is really not a problem, but I do notice my passenger window motor is starting to give out.

The problems areas addressed here are anecdotal at best. What some statistical reliability data? Check Consumer Reports.

The new dipstick is straight as an arrow!

The 07 seems to have an issue with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor at times, under full power.

I'm torn on whether I'd rather have my old BMW where there is a 2-5% chance of the rear subframe ripping off the car, or a much better chance of having to have nissan replace my clutch and transmission, they both seem to be ****ty options....oh well, the Z is more fun to drive at least.
