Does anybody not mod their Z?
I'm not modded other than the K&N that I pleasantly discovered the PO put in. I plan on doing the stereo and speakers. Other than that, maybe some tail/back up tints and some wheels down the road.
I really enjoy this car just the way it was built. By far the best bang for my buck. Hell I don't even keep it all detailed like I should. I'd rather spend that time out driving it.

Almost 100% stock.
Only changes thus far:
BFG KDW2 tires (stock size)
K&N Drop in air filter
I've been on this forum since 2004 and haven't needed a 'fix' for mods. Sure, I think a turbo kit would be nice then I read about all the blown engines...and remember the headaches I had from modifying my last car...

I think most sports cars, in stock form, look and perform well enough for about 90% of the population. Me, I'm not so much crazy into fixing up cars as I used to be. Partly, because I'm realizing how much money goes into mods and how much you lose out on in trade-ins, etc. Most dealerships prefer stock cars, as it will appeal to a broader demographic. IMHO, stock cars also age MUCH better. I had a '91 300ZX not too long ago, and when shopping for it I ONLY looked at stock ones. Partly because IF I wanted to modify a car, I'd like to be the one to choose the parts and to make sure they are put in right and maintained right. Also because most modified cars have either been on a track or have been driven on the streets as if it was a track. Exhaust, IMO, is way too expensive for such small gains--not to mention, I belive I've out grown the "everybody look at me" syndrome.
Notwithstanding my resolve on stock cars, I do believe that certain "generic" mods imporve a cars appearance and mildy sharpen handling without looking "modified." For instance, I belive all cars should have some kind of high flow intake system that does not resonate an annoying drone or "Booooong" sound. Also, NO car should come with the annoying *** wheel gap. Which necessitates springs and struts or at the very least just springs. Although expensive and consuming to install, suspension upgrades, when done in moderation, can only improve the handling, ride, and stance of a car. Hardcore auto-x'ers may disagree and choose to stiffen them up to uncivilized proporitons, but my life does not revolve around orange cones. BMWs, for example, seem to have zero wheel gap stock! Now, why can't all major manufacturers do this with their sports cars? A modest 15%-20% tint, is also, IMHO, a "harmless" mod that protects the interior from UV rays & excessive heat all the while increasing the aesthetics of any car. A shorter throw shifter, accentuates driver/car communication and makes the driving experience much more enjoyable. These "mods" could be done under a couple thousand dollars and, sans the tint, can be taken off in a few hours time when it comes time to trade the car in. These "mods" I find, I will 'have' to do to every car I own until I find a car that takes all of these basic 'necessities' in mind in their design.
2 cents.

I'd be bitter too. Was it still under warranty? I've 20,000 miles and not a hint of a problem except for concern about oil consumption which seems to be getting better as it's now down to a 1 qt/6000 mile rate from a high of 1 qt/2000 miles.
lol it's true that you could get pulled over regardless. if you wanna go crazy with the exterior then maybe you will get pulled over easy, but if you have bolt on's under the hood they wont know unless you expose it. if you wanna mod, your safest bet would go with under the hood =)
and i dont think cops really care bout wheels these days, everyone has aftermarket wheels. i'm sure they enjoy lookin at the different rims while they dunk their donuts in their coffee anyways.

My engines stock. I did put a monitor in the cubby ( hooked to an xbox) just for my own entertainment. I want to mod the engine to but im trying not to start because i know i wont want to stop.
I have a bone stock 06' grand touring M/T, and I plan to keep it that way.
When I was younger, I bought an '02 IS300 m/t new, did a single turbo, new wheels, brakes, suspension, engine rebuild, audio, etc, etc. It was putting down about 420rwhp, looked great, etc. But, the stock W55 tranny sucked, so after blowing it, then blowing two more W58 supra trannies and deciding I didn't want to drop $6-7k for a getrag swap, I put the car back to stock, sold everything, and sold the car because I couldn't stand to drive it stock- it felt like a pig. Anyway, in retrospect, I spent FAR too much $$ on that car, and vowed to never do it again. I would love to have all of the thousands and thousands of dollars back that I spent on it- it would have helped a lot when I bought my house. But, live and learn. The car broke all of the time, I was always having to fix it, always having to upgrade something.. and I did all of the work myself and had a hookup at a local shop where I got free lift and dyno time... I could just bring my car in and work on it. And I STILL spent a ton of money. I was making about $112K at the time and it was still far too expensive for me to keep up with. I always wonder how on earth these people that get out of college making $40-60k and start pouring money into hooking up a car are even putting food on the table or paying their rent.
Don't be willing to hurt your chance of an early retirement or being able to afford a home just for a nice car. People respect good decision making and financial stability more than rims.
I love the Z- it's the first car that I've had that I haven't really wanted to touch... although I'm a bit older now (27) and don't NEED to have the fastest car on the road, that's what my bike is for
Just save and get a house. My $0.02. Honestly the car is just a way of trying to fill some void you think you might have, and it won't.
