When you were younger? 2002? That was like last week!

Kidding! I'm busting your ***** brother...

My car is stock. But then again, my hip is plastic, my couch is covered, I listen to Elvis and my house smells like mothballs...

True, true, true. (If I repeat it enuf times, maybe I'll lose the urge to sink huge sums of $$$ in the Z...?)

heh!

Well, they say everything is relative, you know?

I would just like to hopefully steer someone from the trouble of making poor financial decisions they might regret later... but then again, better to learn something like that at 24 than 64 when everyone else your age is planning their retirement date

When I was younger, I bought an '02 IS300 m/t new, did a single turbo, new wheels, brakes, suspension, engine rebuild, audio, etc, etc. It was putting down about 420rwhp, looked great, etc. But, the stock W55 tranny sucked, so after blowing it, then blowing two more W58 supra trannies and deciding I didn't want to drop $6-7k for a getrag swap, I put the car back to stock, sold everything, and sold the car because I couldn't stand to drive it stock- it felt like a pig. Anyway, in retrospect, I spent FAR too much $$ on that car, and vowed to never do it again. I would love to have all of the thousands and thousands of dollars back that I spent on it- it would have helped a lot when I bought my house. But, live and learn. The car broke all of the time, I was always having to fix it, always having to upgrade something.. and I did all of the work myself and had a hookup at a local shop where I got free lift and dyno time... I could just bring my car in and work on it. And I STILL spent a ton of money. I was making about $112K at the time and it was still far too expensive for me to keep up with. I always wonder how on earth these people that get out of college making $40-60k and start pouring money into hooking up a car are even putting food on the table or paying their rent.

Don't be willing to hurt your chance of an early retirement or being able to afford a home just for a nice car. People respect good decision making and financial stability more than rims.

I love the Z- it's the first car that I've had that I haven't really wanted to touch... although I'm a bit older now (27) and don't NEED to have the fastest car on the road, that's what my bike is for

Just save and get a house. My $0.02. Honestly the car is just a way of trying to fill some void you think you might have, and it won't.
you get a prize.
now i dont have to type out my thoughts since you already did it.
you wanna know how the kids do it??? they forsake everything esle in life and usually go into CC debt to become car nerds and impress guys on car forums. (i have a buddy who does this)
sad...

I mod within my budget. If I can't afford it then I won't. I have to agree with the statement above. My friend just financed a turbo kit because he's trying to keep up with everyone else. It really is sad. I am just slowly taking my time, but I will definately reach my goal, I'm just not that much in a rush, and I refuse to get into debt over my car.

Mine is stock except for a new cd player. I don't really plan on modding or keeping it stock, it just is stock right now. I would like to do a few things to it but all of this car stuff costs so much I don't really find it worth it.

Wheels and tires for $3,500!! These parts are just marked up so much I couldn't imagine paying for that stuff.

I love the people that put $3,500 in wheels and tires on their car at 15% on the CC while they are paying 10% for 6 years on the $30,000 car.

You got screwed on your rate if you're paying 10% on the car and 15% on credit cards.

AGREEED!!!! That's what I always love about BMWs, they don't come with the nasty wheel gaps that almost every other cars, non-exotic, on the planet come with.

I think the bottom line here is the Z is a pretty damn fast car. I mean, 99% of the time on the road, there is going to be no one else faster than you in your Z. And 99.9% of the time on the road, there is going to be no other better-looking car than your Z. Period.

I have only "unleashed" the Z's power maybe 7-8 times over the last year and 3 months of ownership. Some friends call it a waste since I don't gun it all the time...but you know....it's alright...I drive it because I like driving it...I don't drive it to bust a nut at every racer-wannabe nor to impress anyone...
