I stand corrected, the A3, S3 TT, Golf, New Beetle and several other models share the same platform. However, the vast majority of parts are obviously different.
There is no one who would drive my TT roadster and think it is not a pretty serious sports car. Of course, I have some substantial modifications (chip, coilovers, control arms, etc), but I believe that my TTR handles marginally better than a stock 350Z, which is no knock on the Z. Of course, the all wheel drive doesn't hurt either!
I also believe that the Z handles a bit better than a stock TT. I wish I could have driven the track version of the Z, but even the base model was fairly stiff, but not punishingly so.
So yes, the platform is the same, but I think that the inference that the TT is some kind of Beetle in different clothing, is misleading and entirely inaccurate.

I for one did make some negative comments on that previous thread about your review. I wasnt in a pleasant mood that night so i may have been quick to jump.
Although most of my "flaming" comments were directed at post that someone copied here about a TT owner saying how the TT "reflected their high tastes" and "fat wallets". Once i read that, i responed with my opinions. But i didnt meant my comments towards all Audi or all TT owners, just that arrogant ***** (who i am sure you dont appreciate as well).
I do think that most of the negative views of your article spawned from your "not in the same league as the TT" comment. I think you should clarify what you mean (since it seems the interior of the TT is the only advantage it has). Again, if you elaborated more on why you think the TT is in a better league than the Z, you would get less negatives.
I did intend to post that last paragraph on your AW message board but when i tried to register "TJZ" was taken so i gave up b/c i have dial-up and things get fustrating. If you would like to copy this message on your Audi message board i would appreciate it.
Again, i apologize for any generalizations i may (or may not, i didnt reread my post) have made. But i also do not appreciate any generalizations made by your AW members calling us "ricers" for having knowledge about our car before we have driven it.
