I saw this thread and I don't own a 350Z, I usually come on here to educate myself a little bit about mods and what not, and like to read some discussions, and this one caught my eye.

for a little background on me, I own a 300ZX TT, yadda yadda.

Anywho, I personally don't like the 350Z, I don't hate it enough to vandalize one, but I do hate them enough to never wave to one or if one waves to me I usually pretend to ignore her, yes her, because it's 9/10 a woman.

to start off I don't speak for everybody but no it doesn't intimidate me, no I don't think it's pretty, no I don't think it's a 50K car, no it's not a porsche, no I don't wish I own one. Lemme throw in my opinions on why I don't like the car.

It has no character, it's USUALLY driven by somebody who has no respect for cars, much less Z's, and they just bought the car cause it was cheap and pretty.

Another thing is most owners always have this smug stupid look on their face like they drive the toughest **** on the planet, even when it's driven by some 45 year old white woman, who probably can't even drive a manual transmission.

Some pet peeves of mine about the vehicle itself, is the VQ powerplant they use in the Z is also used in the Maxima, G35, FX35, and almost every other V6 powered nissan. I also find the interior a little on the cheap side. There's also no prestige in it since it's selling in such huge numbers every middle class wannabe rich person in my neighborhood has one.

To wrap it up, I respect TRUE enthusiasts of the 350Z, who love the car for more than "Because it's cheap and pretty". It's just a shame so many non enthusiast wannabe's own them.

I'm sorry you have a hard time accepting the fact that 75% of 350Z owners I see fit that profile.

The "zomg I have the coolest car on the planet!!!1 everybody look at me I'm cool! 300Z? what's a 300Z? I thought this was the first and only Z!!"

If you're a true enthusiast who knows the Z legacy, kudos, you have won my respect, for the rest of the posers, you suck.


EDIT: atleast that's how it is in California, if I lived anywhere that didn't have 100 350Z's in college campus parking lot, then I'd consider getting one for myself.

 

Sounds like what a RX-7 owner would say to a RX-8 owner. So you think every 300ZX and RX-7 owners are hardcore enthusiasts?

 

Honestly I think there very few cars that are produced in any large amount that are driven mostly by enthusiasts. For the average person cars serve the need for transportation and since the Z costs 25-35K (or so) new there going to be bought by people who want basic transport not by someone who wants a high sports car. I've seen plenty of 300's that are driven by "non-enthusiasts" just as I've seen alot of 350's driven by "non-enthusiasts" the only difference is that the 350 is new so theres more of them on the road. At the end of the day I like or don't like a car because of merits and not because of who drives it.


I do understand what your saying a bit though and while I don't believe its a good reason to not like the car I think it's the reason why the Z gets alot of hate. It seems alot of 350Z people buy the car to look cool. A good example is when a thread on this forum brings up the EVO and STi both of which outperform the 350Z yet the only thing most people can say is "the Z gets more women" or something like that as if the only point of having a nice car is to "look cool" and that looks matter over peformance for everyone. That's not really a car enthusiast thats someone who wants the image of being a car enthusiast.

But not all Z owners are like that and that doesn't make me like my car any less.

 

nope, in no way is the gap as far between the 300ZXTT and the 350Z, as big as the RX-7-8.

I see tons of crappy 300ZX owners, but they all own the N/A version.

well, just to give you an idea of why the car has no prestige where I live.

You probably see, what? 2-5 350Z's a day? I see like 15-20 the average day I go driving, it's tough to like a car that you see a ton of times every day.

as far as merits go, I like the 300ZX Twin turbo because it shattered the sports car world, trounced the corvette, turned Japanese motorsports around, etc. I thought when the 350Z was announced it was going to do the same, instead it went a completely different direction "Cheap affordable bang for the buck sports car", which is good, but not great kind of thing.

Anywho, back on topic, the reason I think people vandalize the car is cause it's the flagship "Rice rocket", you always see it advertised with stupid flames on it and stuff, and I think alot of American muscle fans hate it cause of that and maybe they vandalize it etc.

 

Well see that what I don't understand I don't care if I see 1000 of them a day I still like it because its a good car. If you want rarity then we both bought the wrong car.

Well the 300ZX TT was more ground breaking and expensive but you could argue that the 350Z is more in line with the affordable sports car mentality that started the Z line. Is there anything wrong with having a cheap sports car. If it cost as much as the 300ZX TT it would have been and even better car but I probably wouldn't have been able to afford one. It offered pretty good performance for the money and for 26K I paid for it ne I can't think of another new car that outperforms it in every category.

heh, yeah we'll agree to disagree. the 350Z is a good car for the money no doubt.

oh, and I almost never see a 300ZX TT around my area, maybe once or twice a week, N/A's on the other hand I see atleast a couple every day.

Anywho as long as you're happy with your car, I'm happy for you =). Oh and somebody keyed my car, but didn't do too good a job cause I hardly notice it, guess that's a good thing.

My Z was vandalized three times at work not even 3 months after I bought it. Someone busted my windshield the first time, keyed it from front bumper to rear bumper, and the third time someone walked up and just kicked my front bumper. Had a witness on last incident. Reason? JEALOUSY.

Since Keatonus wants a "rare" sports car to garnish him the prestige & respect he thinks he should have - I would suggest that maybe he just garage his car, put it up on blocks, keep it stock, and in 20 more years it might be worth something to a collector. Otherwise please stfu, your 300TT is only simi "rare" now cause it's 15 years old. Your car is yester-year, my friend. The rest have either worn out or been in accidents. In four days of owning the Z I have had more jealous comments and looks than with any other sports car I have owned. (I owned a 300zx TT in 2000-1) Is the 350Z rare?...not really...I see a lot of old people/non enthusiasts driving them EVERYDAY. Does that bother me? No. A TRUE rare sports car...is RARELY owned by a true enthusiast...more often people buy them for looks and to compete with the jones'....most of the time the only rite of passage is to have a lot of $$$ For example: There are three 93-97 Supra TT's in my town....one is owned by a Dr, one is owned by a Lawyer, one is owned by a 17 year old....which one do you think is the true enthusiast? Which one would you be the most jealous of? Which do you think is the WANNABE? The answers would surprise you. To generalize the owners of 350z's is a mistake! Especially since majority on the here ARE enthusiasts who will be angered by your comments. Some of whom, will know a lot about your 300...maybe even more than you. Your comments (while some are valid) seem to me to have a slight hint of jealousy. I won't dog the 300, but let me tell you there were many things wrong with that car...or else I wouldn't own a 350 now. To each his own...but respect your fellow enthusiasts....ignore the rest.

I don't care which car you're talking about(TT or NA), the majority of the owners are always gonna be non-enthusiasts. It's simple math. How many friends do you have(lets say 200) and lets see how many of them are into cars. Out of the few hundred college buddies that I met, only like 10 - 20 of them are into cars. Also, the reason why you see more 350Z in California has a lot to do with the weather. In places that actually get snow, non-enthusiasts would usually stay away from cars like 350Z since they also consider if a car is practical. Also, the 350Z had only been out for a few years, of course you'd see it more often than the older cars. Again, it's simple stat. Most Supra (both NA and TT) are either whacked or they're stored in some garage waiting for the value to sky rock.

 

It's almost like people are trying to "put Z owners in their place" so to speak. It's unwarranted jealousy. Most don't know that the car is not "that" expensive.
Or maybe it's because of their circumstances that they can't own a Z i.e. too many kids or can't afford the Z as a second car, too fat to fit in it...whatever.

Yes, good observation, my car is yester-year, grats, yes every other one is either worn out by idiots, primered, or wrecked. It's tough to find a good condition 300ZXTT.

TO Sig66, I completely agree with you, I don't generalize all 350Z owners, I stated above I give mad props and respect to any/all 350Z owners who respect the Z heritage, and own the car because they love the car, not just because their pocketbook can't afford something prettier.

heh, and yes I have problems with my TT too, having to fight a stupid fricken oil leek that keeps coming from the valve seals.

oh and btw, What the hell is up with 350Z's and the color silver? I'm so sick of seeing silver on the 350Z. heh maybe it's cause Keying doesn't come out on a silver car?

keatonus i gotta say, altho u have a few valid points, you sound like the kind of ******* who would vandalize someones car because of ignorance. when i think of the poster child for a ricer, i think of a civic, celica, or integra...something front wheel drive with crazy spoilers and stickers with a huge *** fart can, not a z.

everyone on this site is an enthusiast at some level because y else would they come on here and read about the car. a lot of owners are old men and woman who just want a sports car, but even if they're not enthusisasts y does that make people think "hey i should key that car"?

u sound like u think your 300 tt is some exotic or something and it holds true to z heritage where the 350 does not when in fact the 350 is probably truer to its heritage than your 300 is because of its affordability and raw sports car feel. i've driven 300 tt's and while they are fast, i think they feel heavy and dont seem like a car that's that fun to drive. i actually see more mexican guys with 20's on their 300's than enthusiasts who really know about its heritage, but i still dont have the urge to key their car.

if you think z owners are for the most part arogant a holes who think they're the kings of the road maybe you should examine soe of the things you've said in this thread. i agree that a lot of z owners (even enthusiasts) think the z is cooler than it is but you seem no differant if not worse
