Default Wheel spin in 2nd gear

Hello,

I have a new 07 touring and was wondering about wheel spin in 2nd gear. Shifting around 6K (shhh, only 1100 miles on the car ) I am getting a bunch of wheel spin in second gear. I know when I get my car to the track that will cost me some time. What is the proper technique here? The last "fast" car I had was a 90 Mustang GT and it would "chirp" second, but the Z has so much power it just spins the tires in second.

Thanks

Thats usually a problem when you try to shift too fast in the 1-2 shift. Try not to power shift or learn to mix the clutch and gas better. It does cost you time! I ran 0.3 seconds longer when i powershifted 1-2 because i ended up getting sideways.

You'll just have to keep working at the shifting and timing. You cant linger on the clutch at all. I nearly lost my car changing into 3rd a few weeks ago by just making a dumbass mistake and lingering on the clutch a fraction of a bit too long after changing gears.

learn how to feather the throttle. cant quite power shift but shift quickly. i can chirp the tires in third when i power shift, so on the track it will cost precious time.

The dragstrip surface might be better for traction. You will get a feeling at the dragstrip for temperature and traction on any particular day. Some days you will not be able to come into second gear hard. Like first gear, use some moderation.

Upgrade to an after-market LSD.

that was my problem shift on the track also. 1st to 2nd is touchy and i find street tires to have much less traction on the track then on the street. So, if you think your 2nd gear spin is bad now, wait untill you jam it in gear at the track and it stays spinnnig half way down the track. I couldnt stand it anymore so i purchased a wider set up, and made sure to heat them up nice before i line up. (285/35/18 gets it done)
