Default Will insurance pay for rock chips on the front of my car?

Okay so I've heard a couple different things from different people about the subject. The quetion is, If I were to have my front end repainted due to rock chips, would insurance cover that?

I have state farm insurance with full comprehensive coverage. Would it be considered in the same category as say a chipped/ cracked windshield? What if i told them i got behind a gravel truck (this is actually true, but not ALL those chips came from the truck). Is there any way to get them to cover it without raising my rate? I also have a $500 Deductible

Not sure about increase of insurance rate, but you will have to pay deductible for sure.

Well if you ask they should tell you if you call and ask but I would check with a body shop first to see how much its going to cost to get it repainted. You may find its cheaper in the long run to just pay to have it painted than deal with the insurance company and put a ding on your record with them.

it shouldn't cost 500 bucks to get your bumper repainted, so using your insurance would do nothing, even if it cost 600 bucks, wouldnt' it be worth it to pay out of pocket vs. maybe having your insurance go up. personaly it just doesn't make sense...now maybe if you got the body shop to say you needed a new bumper, and a new hood, you could maybe be in business, but not gonna happen with rock chips.

well i had a body shop quote me 1500 to repaint the front bumper, fenders and hood. but im wondering if he didnt just quote me high cuz he doesnt want my business.

ive been to the body shop before and they do great work, but im a perfectionist and make them redo the paint until its perfect. it took 5 tries to get the corvette right.

Yeah, it's worth it in the long run to just pay it yourself even if they cover it. I got quoted $800 I believe to have my front end repainted. (Bumper, front of hood and front of fenders)

pay out of pocket - if you deal with insurance, your rates will more than likely increase. so as most people above me have said - in the long run, it will be cheaper if you just pay out of pocket.

I dare you to call your insurance company and ask them to paint rock chips. They'll scoff at the idea...

And if by some miracle they did pay $1000 (+ your 500 deductible) to repaint your bumper, hood, and fenders, I'm sure they'd tack it onto your bill for the next year or two (i.e. increase your rates) for spite.

Noone calls insurance to fix rock chips man. Noone does it for a reason...

Do you want a bunch of message bord guesses, or do you want a real answer?

Call your insurance agent.

Good advice even though his insurance agent is probably going to laugh at him.

I kind of think of it this way: Would your insurance agent replace your tires for you?! I think not... Rock chips are expected wear/tear on the front end of a car, just like tires, breaks, etc. are normal wear/tear items. If you didn't want the chips, you should have brought a clear bra for $350ish in the beginning... Now that they are there, deal with them or pay the $ to get it fixed yourself and then get the clear-bra on top of it. Otherwise they'll just be back in another 5-10k miles anyway (speaking from experience as I just had my front bumper replaced 1,000 miles ago and already can count at least 2, 3, or maybe even 4 chips).

Just do what I did...

Park close to the entrance to circuit city, when the dumbass CC item loaders/delivery people take a item out to load it into the car next to you... Sometimes they are stupid enough to set there big *** industrial grade tape thing on your god damn hood of your car.

Than shockingly they are suprised when you get mad and come out and find it on top of your car and some 'rock chips' on the front.

So you complain and there insurance will fix it.

A broken/cracked windshield is a safety hazard, your front bumper being speckled with chipped paint from rocks is not. Thats like asking the insurance company to replace a tire that has a nail in it.

Somebody keys your car, insurance covers that and it's purely cosmetic.

Big rock falls off a truck then dents your hood and smashes your windshield. Insurance pays? Yes.

Ya see this is what I'm thinking.

As soon as I get out of school, I'll call my agent. I didn't know if anyone had ever had any luck with getting insurance to cover it.

I'm also going to get 2 other quotes on painting it before I even consider getting insurance to cover it. Plus, why would my insurance rate go up for damage thats not my fault. are you saying that if your windshield cracks, and insurance cvers the replacement, that the rate goes up?

is it covered? yes it is. your agent shouldnt tell you to file a claim or not, its not good ethics. comp claims dont count against you, but they can cancel the policy on claim frequency.
