Default Dyno Machine comparisons from Turbo Magazine

In the June 2003 issue of Turbo Magazine they set out to test different kinds of Dyno's to see how they compared in results. As a test car they chose the 350Z because of the high HP and NA. During the span of one day they went to 6 dynos with the same 350Z and here were the results:

Dynapack 249.4 HP & 242.8 TQ
DTS 257.6 HP & 556.5* TQ (raw no gear reduction for TQ)
Dynojet (WIN) 235.8 HP & 227.8 TQ
Dynojet (DOS) 243.7 HP & 237.2 TQ
Clayton 265.7 HP & 240.6 TQ
Super Flow 228.9 HP & 226.6 TQ

The above numbers are averages of 3 runs at each dyno and they are listed in order of when they were done.

So as can be seen not all dyno's are made equal, so I think we have to start assuming our cars are all basically similar in stock configuration and can use dyno results to just see increases in HP and TQ.

Great post. 260 to 230 is a big difference! By any chance did the post how each did the dyno? *fan/wait between runs/temperature/ect*

Yup that's why the most important thing when you tune is to use the same dyno to make sure you can tune it properly. So if any number of shops have parts at a better price and cheaper install pick one place to do all your dyno tunning.
