Default 287 hp vs. 300 hp

am i the only one to notice that the 287 hp 350z is considerably faster than the 300 hp z? before i started modding my Z, when it was bone stock, i raced my friends track z all the time and usually pulled ahead 90% of time time in a straight line up from about 50 to 110-120. I started modding my car but cant really see a difference in performance. I recently drove my friends new 06 300 hp 350z and couldnt believe how much slower it felt than my car when it was stock. with my stock Z i was able to spin tires shifting into second and chirp into 3rd every single time (with good tires). when i drove his, it only barely chirped into second (with the same tires)... it was dissapointing. is mine a "factory freak" or is his a "lemon"?

I like to think of myself as one of the best manual transmission drivers i know in terms of shifting correctly and extremely fast. i shifted the same speed in my friends 06 as when i do in my 03 287 hp. look forward to your responses!

Only thing I could think of (and this may not be the case for you guys) is ETC vs TBW.

Of course if you guys are all ETC... I have no idea how that would be possible.

considerably faster? definitely no. butt-dynos are usually not reliable.

it can only be one of 3 things...
1. 03-05 z's are a tiny bit faster because they're bit lighter than 06 (debateable of course)
2. 03-05s and 06s are besically same.. weight dif. and hp dif. sorta cancel out each other.
3. 06s are tiny bit faster because of higher power output.

I can chirp 3rd on my 06, but it was rather hard doing it on 07 z... that doesn't mean the 07 Z was disappointing by any means.

haha well with a heavy rear wheel drive car its harder to do.. and if a car like that can do it, well its pretty impressive especially shifting into 3rd gear

During 2003, Nissan built 12 NRT (Nissan Racing Team) motors for formula competition. Only 7 were delivered. Word is that 5 motors made their way into 350Zs headed to the United States. There is no documentation as to which 350Z got the NRT motor. You may have 1 of only 5.

Probably so. It's pretty amazing how many new members here seem to have factory freaks as well.
