Default 5.4 - 5.5 sec

is anyone really dissapointed with this? we have three reported times in the 5.5 - 5.4 range. The 1/4 mile is more important and the trap speed. I think 13.9@102 beats most reported boxster S/S2000 times.

I am a little disappointed, but with NISMO there is still hope for a 5.0 and 13.5

Disappointed? Have you seen a 5.4 second car @ the Z's price with the Z's torque? Short of a mamouth American F-body...

Whether 5.5 or 5.4 I'm not dissatisfied. I'll wait patiently for my Nismo parts which I'm sure will get me under 5 to the high 4s with supercharger, exhaust, ecu, and whatever else.

well the $23K WRX is kind of right there. But not without a 5,000 rmp clutch drop. Once rolling the Z is a much faster car.

I wanted to wait for motor trend to see what they could do before I said anything. The driver must have decided not to drive as aggressively as he normally would (for M/T). I have been told it will do the 60 in 5.2. I was also told that I would not want to know how that number was obtained! All I can figure is the clutch was dropped at a WRX level to get that number . . . something I would never do anyway. Lets just take the 5.4-5.5 and go from there, it is not a drag car anyway.

Two things to remember:

1. Better weather will yield better times.
2. Once the vehicle has some decent miles (>25K) it will get faster (1/4 - 1/3 sec?)

I'm a bit disappointed with the 1/4 mile time....13.9...what...a Type R does 14.2???? and costed around 25k.

I guess its not really that bad...I don't "live by life by every quater mile" just to university and back home.

I'm very pleased with the 5.4 0-60 time. And what made me even happier is when I saw a 5.2 0-60. I think it is great, and the 1/4 13.9 is great for me

Is it true that the Z has a 0-60 timer inside the vehicle?

I think with a good driver, a 5.2 will be possible. I dont think it would take a 5000 RPM clutch dump because the Z makes a lot of power down low and if you dumped the clutch at that RPM all you would get is a lot of tire smoke. I would also be willing to be the only modification to hit a 5.0 or possibly better 0-60 would be swapping out the Bridgestones for a set of Nitto NT-555R drag radials. I think we will start seeing 13.7's or better once more cars and out being raced, especially if some people are brave enough to powershift. With the 102.25 trap speed alone, this car is capable of mid 13 second times.

What model did M/T test? Base/Track, what? I was just wondering about difference in weight. Isn't the base the lightest model? But the Track has lightwieght wheels. But the Base doesn't have limited slip diff. Some different factors between the two. Hell it could have been a heavy Touring model. I'm betting Track, though.

Anyway I'll bet I can sqeeze a better time out of her. Near empty gas tank and strip out all loose wait like donut & such. My friend is getting Track model and he is not a heavy guy and is a very good driver. I know he can do the deed!

But 13.95!! Hey it's in the 13's and that is fast. I'm stoked!!

Does any know the ambient temperature at the time Motor Trend tested the Z?

In case you don't know, when it's cold (in the winter) say 30 degrees, cars run much faster. Cold air is more dense than hot air, and more air / fuel can be packed into the cylinders which results in more power.

I am very happy with the times. You don't see WRXs or Mustangs in those times at the track without mods.

Keep in mind, the Z is about more than straight line accelleration, like a boxter or S2k. Neither of those cars offer better straight line, and they cost a lot more.

With some BFG drag radials and intake and exhaust mods, mid to low 13s are easily achievable.

Probably one thing holding it back is the skinny tires in back. When you see RWD cars in the 13's, they usually have wider tires than the stock 235s.

Default I think

we have been through this whole conversation before. Don't like the numbers, don't buy the car. We know the times of the Z and don't need to rehash about how you think it is not fast enough. Just enjoy the car.

How can you be disapointed? Here's a car that handles as well as a Porche, is as fast as your average American muscle car, has gotten nothing but rave reviews, delivers more then Nissan ever promised, and only costs as much as a Mitsubishi Eclipse!

whats going to happen to the Eclipse GT cars .. MSRP for those cars was ~$25k .. these cars are going to forced to offer more competitive pricing, or will need a definite revamp.

Have you seen a 14.2 in person?? Was is stock? The fastest I've heard for an ITR is 14.8.

Regarding the Type R doing 14.2 stock...very, very unlikely. I'm not going to say impossible, but not typical by any means. Most Type R's run in the high 14's stock, on factory tires. I think a fair number of people on the Honda board I frequent laid down a 14.6...but not much faster. Mine ran a 14.8...and two good friends of mine with the 2000 and 2001 models (black and yellow) ran in the same ballpark. In most conditions, they do not normally run low 14's from the factory though.

You said it! Wait until about 20K miles or so, it should get under 5 w/intake and exhaust.
