Resturants - Lots and lots of them. Good ones too.
1) Rocky Point-(south of Carmel 15miles on 1) It costs a bit ($20 a plate) but it's on the water above the cliffs south of Carmel. Great Food. Worth it.
2) Black Bear- If your on a budget and want good food and don't care on view. Black Bear is right before you leave Carmel going south on HWY 1. Like $12 a plate.... Lot's of food. Good quality. * We go there a lot to save money and get a good meal. Hey, you even have leftovers for the next day.
3) Cannery Row in Monterey has a few good ones ... just pick.
4) San Francisco - Endless list ..... I like Cornelious Room, Hopkins, Fairmont
Those will cost some change.
5) San Francisco - Of course Fisherman's Wharf is always good.
6) Pismo - San Luis Obispo, check out Apple Tree Inn
Of course, all along your way you'll find the Chevy's, Applebee's, Macarroni Grills, Mimi's, etc.... of the world.
Have fun .... maybe get an entertainment book for our area and save ... ???

Passionfish in Pacific Grove. Absolutely amazing food as well as a damn fine wine list. The B&B's in the area are amazing as well. Only a stone's throw from Cannery Row/Monterey.

All I'm talking about is a couple of towels & mit.
But if you want a car wash there is one in Roseville, Ca. called Bob's Carwash that is good. I assume you will be coming through on I 80; Bob's is less than 5 minutes from freeway. If you want to MapQuest it, intersection is Cirby & Sunrise in zipcode 95661.

Okay, here is a slick drive if the timing works for you.
It takes you along a winding two lane road but still good pavement & fun drive. If your on I-80 take I 505 by Vacaville, Ca. north to Winters. In Winters turn left on to hwy128 west. Fun road along south edge of Lake Berryessa. Just past lake you will come to split; bear right staying on 128 until it ends at HWY 29 just South of St Helena. You are now in the heart of Napa wine coutry. Go right (north) on HWY 29 a mile or two to V. Sattui Winery. It will be on your right. Great deli for lunch with nice gardens for imprompto picnic.

I think this only works if you are rested so your schedule would have to include a stop the night before somewhere between Reno & Vacaville (About midpoint between Sacto. & SF.)

well it looks like ill be able to take my father's legacy on this trip instead of the z. ill be sad to not drive the z but i wont have to worry and ill also save some money from the gas. More room for my gf's **** and still enjoy all the sights. Plus the z will be back home with twins so it will be happy!

Monterey Bay Aquarium on your way down is a must. While you're there, check out Roy's at Pebble Beach. A bit more so on the pricier side, but good food.
When you're in SoCal, Napa Rose in DownTown Disney (next to the Disney Grand Californian hotel) has some one of largest wine selections you'll find.
Otherwise, I say hit all the beaches, and if you surf, bring your board.
