Whats wrong with the base. I feel that is a better choice to start with. The vlsd is not that great and I can install an lsd myself and only spend 900 on a new nismo one. Also I have no traction control to increase understeer and save on weight from not having useless electronics that I will never use and just sit there. But like everyone said. Its what you want to do with it.

well i worked at a nissan dealership and a young gentleman came in and traded in his new 07 STI with less than 3K miles on it for a san marino blue Z so that answers your question right there.

If you dont need trunk space or back seats you will be happy. The only thing that sucks about the Z is modding. It takes a lot of money to get it up there, unlike your STI. I wanted an STI at first but the Z's exterior and Interior took me. I still want an STI though.

I'm also looking forward to getting a Z to use as a new daily driver. I also have a modded 02 WRX which I will be keeping(currently getting a 2.5 swap, Z comes after swap is done).

I have no previous experience with a RWD platform and would like some input as to the car handles with an open diff, the factory LSD and aftermarket LSD.

Should note that the wrx has a front helical LSD.

My brother has an 04 STi. He has no HP mods, but nice KW coilovers and Cobb sways. I hav driven it all-out on a few occasions and prefer my Z. My Z has no hp mods either but does have larger tires, (275/40 17 R / 255/40 17 F) RS-R springs, Hotchkis sways and a Quaife LSD. He is stuck with 245/45 17's because STU (his autocross class) doesn't allow rolling fenders and that's all he can fit on stock wheels.
His car has a little more power and the AWD lets you get into the throttle sooner on corner exit, but my Z does better in many other areas. Corner entry, lateral grip (sweepers), controlled rotation for tight turns, and transitions are all better in my Z.

Do you think i will be unhappy with it in terms of drivability and performance? I test drove it and loved it but i havnt had the chance to live with it for a bit. I know my sti was running a 13.2 @ 103 in the quarter(i have done it. the z isnt that fast but the trap speed is higher. 0-60 times are within half a second etc... I am 99.9% sure i will be getting the z, just wanted to know if you guys think i will be disappointed by leaving the scooby for the z. As far as this site, you guys seem great, knowledgable, and smart@ssed just like myself.

-and how much difference do u think the differental in the enthusiest will make over the base? worth the extra cash for that and trac controll?

thanks
You will like the Z just fine. Stick to the 07's for there is a difference in power versus the older models. I played around with a modded white STI the other day. I was behind him and we rolled 2nd gear. He maybe pulled a fender till 3rd gear. I was reeling him in at the top of third. He had loud exhaust with blow off valve and black smoke coming out of his tail pipe.

Sounds like he had a crappy setup. I used to tune subies and if done right, there would be no chance of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Atmospheric BOVs are a terrible thing on subies, so if you come across one, 99.9% of the time, it's not set up right. It takes full blown engine management like hydra to get the BOV tune right, and even then its tricky. That' why all OEM manufacturers do recirculating valves. It's hard to tune for MAf metered air that is blowing off into the atmosphere. The AFR calibration is a ***** with that.
My tuned WRX would blow doors off my Z in 1/4 mile. That's the truth. But...the Z offers the refinement that the 2.0L WRX did not offer. That's why I'm driving a Z now
