you have to push DOWN on the shifter in Neutral, then move it all the way over and down right

Not to worry. The Z won't let that happen ("blow the tranny"). Getting to reverse requires a significant amount of down-pressure on the shifter. Going to reverse gear with forward momentum will result in a great deal of "grind," and the Z won't allow this.

Maybe you should have your parents trade that car for a better learning car than a Z. I started out with an auto Pontiac Sunbird and even though it sucked having such a sucky car, I learned some respect for cars.

Well, my car insurance policy just went up $5/month yesterday

Thats with nothing changing on my end. Oh well, I should be getting a $30 drop this December (turning 25).

ummmmm.... please don't wreck it huh. Peep the drivers manual, watch your parents drive it a few times if you have this basic of a question.

You are not worthy. Learn to read the manual, even the quick start guide illustrates the procedure for going in reverse. Kids these days. worried for our future I say!

I could just imagine the OP trying to test drive the Z and the salesman having to back it out of the lot.
