The manual also says to use premium. It says you can use 87 in an emergency. A steady diet of regular will definitely lower performance, increase fuel consumption, (the ECU will retard timing) and could lead to engine damage.
Even if using regular didn't increase fuel consumption (and it WILL), that 33 cent premium will cost you less than $200 a year, if you drive 12K. Don't you think $200 a year is worth it o keep your car running properly?

I don't understand how people can risk compromising their engine to save a dollar or two on gas. Jeez I don't ever pay attention to gas prices...it's a fact of life that I have to have gas to get around.
Assuming you drive 12,000 miles in a year, at 25 mpg, you spend an extra $96 a year to use premium instead of regular.
It's really so small as to be completely insignificant if you can really afford this car. It just seems like a big deal when you're filling up.

... that the engine could be run with regular or premium and that the engine management would adjust automatically. The extra $2 a tank doesn't bother me so I run only premium and always will. My concern was remembering when gas supplies ran out and there was only regular gasoline left.

From the ('06) Owner's Manual:
"Use unleaded premium gasoline with and octane rating of at least 91.
If premuim gasoline is not available, unleaded regualr with an octane rating of 87 may be temporarily used, but only under the following precautions:
Have the fuel tank filled only partially with unlead regular gasoline, and fill up with unleaded premium as soon as possible
Avoid full throttle driving and abrupt acceleration."
Seems like Nissan is pretty adamant that you should use premium!

Some citgos round here have 91 for about .05 less than 93, which I'll get if it's not out of the way. I picked up some 93 at a Hess for 3.15 round UCF, that's about as cheap as it can get nowadays.
Honestly, at close to $4.00 a gallon, does the different between 3.55 to 3.8? make a difference?
Should have known when getting into a sports car, that the sacrifice to run Premium needed to be made.

Just use regular gas. If your motor dont like it and blows up use your warranty and get a new one. I personally use premium on all my cars. Even my beater. But it really does not matter much.

That's actually funny as I had to drive to 6 different stations to finally find one that had 91+ octane available. All the stations around here are out and most don't even have the 89 octane stuff available either (only 87). It has been this way for 2 weeks now.
On a side note, if things get desperate I will start making my own again.
