A/C and Full Throttle
I had a problem with my A/C and did some study on it. Mine is an 04.5, I'm not sure of the 03's. The A/C compressor is all controlled by the car's electronics, I assumed it was just a switch and thermostat. The compressor is actually a 6 cylinder variable displacement unit so rather than engage/disengage it changes it's displacement to meet demand, pretty slick.
The problem on mine was the front of the clutch had some came off and was lost. I work on a/c systems but had no idea what was wrong with mine. The dealer pointed it out to me (for 90 bucks) and offered to repair it for $823.00 and a full day in the shop. The next day I got a used part that was missing for free and it was fixed in 20 minutes.

OMFG I just laughed for like 2 minutes...
And today I figured out why "sometimes" my AC doesnt work for crap.
Its when I'm on the freeway(where it should be kickin cold) but it was from being WOT, who would have thought!
I figured it was purely RPM based, I guess not!
I usually am in 5th/6th on the freeway at no more than 4k unless some dbag is trying to play.

May be a bit off topic, and a result of my lack of knowledge for such things, but would like an explanation for this...
I have an 03. When I have the A/C on, I simply CANNOT shift smoothly, and feel as though I'm destroying my drivetrain. It feels like the RPMs drop way too quickly and are never high enough for a smooth transition from a lower gear into a sequential higher one. Just wondering if something isn't working as it should, or if this is normal. Aside from the expected loss in power, I don't want to be tearing my Z apart internally.
I've since been spending days of 90º+ heat without the A/C, and quite honestly, it fawkin' sucks.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is it really makes driving difficult, the compressor might be broken.

Every A/C-equipped car that I have ever seen, going back to the '50s had some system to disengage or unload the compressor at WOT and/or heavy load.
It only makes sense. It reduces the load on the engine when you need full power, and the compressor cycling off for 15 seconds or so has no noticeable effect on cabin temp.
