My first "someone parked near me! WTF?!"

Y'know, you probably shouldn't park way out there. In my experience, it does more harm than good.
I've never had a dent on my car when I park as close to the door as possible, however, one time my mother took our old 1997 BMW 328i out to a parking lot and parked out of the way like that (because it was in great condition and was freshly waxed). She was in the store for a moment and came out to find a HUGE dent in the rear driver's side door. We figured a big white SUV kissed it while cruising around the parking lot (because there were white paint scrapes on it, and it was about the right height on the car). We weren't even graced by a "Sorry! I'm not going to give you any info though" notes.
Every other car our family has owned has been fine, but we've never done anything special with them. I try not to park my Z next to a short bus, but I'll find any parking spot that is as close to the entrance to the store/movie theater as possible.

I feel like people do that:
A) Because they would have parked far away too, and think it's cool to park next to another car with the same idea, knowing their car will be safe.
or
B) Just to **** you off, because it obviously looks like you don't want anyone near you.
If I see another Z parked out in no mans land I usually park near it, but never right next to it. I think it's cool seeing two Z's chillin in the lonely part of the parking lot.

Lol I understand the whole "knowing it would be safe so I'll park next to this guy" but come on... what happened to the one space rule? Just like in the bathroom, if no one else is there ONE SPACE AWAY.

Not a compliment. If there were numerous spaces the M3 could have taken but chose to park near me, I would have been tempted to try my field goal kicking on his quarter panel.
Oh, and for anyone who says BMW drivers = careful with their cars, do not believe that myth. The rich bored yuppies who drive BMWs don't give a rats posterior about their cars, from what I've seen. They're more concerned with their Banana Republic clothes or their $20 thimble of coffee from Starbucks than dinging someone else's door (or dings on their own).

And mercedes doors are heavy and swing real wide. If I can find an empty space between a corvette and a parking lot island, I'm in hog heaven...
+100000000 to that, An island and an empty spot with a nice car next to it FTMFW!
