Meh... of course you're gonna pay more at the dealer. I had mine installed there (1 hour of labor @ $91.00). And yeah they get a higher mark-up on their parts. They also warrant their work and parts. It just comes down to convenience vs. money imo. If you feel like getting under your car for an hour two then by all means save the extra dough.

Ok I will try to give you some in sight as to why they priced it this way. The 3 hours labor ($95-100/hour is pretty standard in this area) DOES NOT mean it will take 3 hours. whether it takes 10 minutes or 3 days the tech gets paid 3 hours of labor. Keep in mind that the tech putting it on the car is probably making between $16 and $20 on the high end. The rest is for insurance and for the service dept.

If you can find it somwhere else cheaper, see if they will match the price or go somewhere else. order it online and install it yourself. The dealership should warranty the product if they install it, but if you put it on yourself, and a weld cracks or fiberglass comes out the cannister, they most likely will not.

will the exhaust system break? most likely not. will it be hard to install? that all depends on your mechanical abilities.

Technicians have tools and bills to pay for, please don't whine and ***** that the dealership is a ripoff when the labor rate is more than you think it should be. The cost of insuring a shop is what really drives the labor rate up. If you dont want to pay what they want for them to perform a service go find a cheaper place.

Because the service department is where a dealership makes its most profit.
The service dept. is what keeps a dealership afloat.

The used car department makes a profit.

The new car department makes a little profit.

PS: And a the finance office is a money making machine.
