How is it not fraud? It sounds like you're recommending the OP pad or exaggerate his claim by misrepresenting the actual cost of replacement parts so he can "cash out."

It's such a common practice these days most people don't see it as fraud or feel justified b/c they've paid years worth of premiums without ever collecting.

Where did I ever tell the OP to file a false or exaggerated claim? Insurance companies appraise damage based on the MSRP costs of parts, not what forum members on my350z.com are selling their touring wheels for. In the case of the 18" stock wheels, they are a total of about $3100 from Nissan (not including tires). The OP is in every right to receive a check from an insurance company for the amount lost on the car, and he can spend that on whatever he pleases. Additionally, he is not the one telling the insurance company that his $3100 worth of wheels were stolen...the insurance company will determine that amount with their own data.

I find it comical that you can make broad generalizations because of a mis-understanding of a process. There are a few insurance agents and adjusters on this board if I recall, so I'm sure they can chime in on the subject.

Actually that isnt fraud thats how much the OEM Wheels cost. I have my estimate rite here and I couldnt believe how much the stock wheels go for from the dealership. They do take 10% off each tire for wear and tear. But for four rims and four tires you end up with a total of 3K. Thats what the adjust came up with not me. All from the dealers prices.

Fraud is when you illegally make a claim. I think you should look that word up playa.

Understand and agreed on all that except I think you are confusing Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price with actual cost.

Additionally, he is not the one telling the insurance company that his $3100 worth of wheels were stolen...the insurance company will determine that amount with their own data.
My experience has been that they require a quote of actual repair costs which they weigh against industry standards before cutting a check.

If the actual walk-in quoted replacement cost as redbull states is $3100 then more power to him. That just sounded ridiculously high to me for cast factory wheels.

peace.

Fraud is illegal yes, but not by definition:
Fraud is an intentional deception perpetrated to secure an unfair gain.

Seel- How'd you come to your conclusion Sherlock? From the OP's post, you figured that out all by yourself. Remarkable.
anyone without locking nuts on their wheels deserves it then.

Remarkable enough to having locking nuts...and more than enough sense to post a story about my wheels without locking nuts getting stolen...EINSTEIN

I understand where you are coming from Seel, and yes it would have been a better idea to have locking lugs. I just have never heard of anyone around here getting anything stolen from their cars so didn't think too much about it. Its a small college town and I guess its becoming more and more ghetto. However, if you are going to state something which is blatantly obvious and unsincere then I would appreciate you keep it to yourself

If you think locking lug nuts will prevent your wheels from getting stolen, you are sadly mistaken...EINSTEIN

I had 2 sets of locks on my wheels. The lugs/locks required a thin socket, and they sat deep enough in the holes that if thieves were able to get my wheels off chances were they would also jack up the face of the wheels. In that case they can have them.

Dude that sucks , the only fraud is Nissan charging $600 each for stock cast wheels IMO , but being thrifty with the money from the claim is just being smart.

I was mad when I first found out, but then I realized first of all it was 4:30am and I was tired and ready to go to bed, and me getting angry and beating the **** out of things would not make my wheels come back. I have also learned that in bad situations you have to try to make the best of it and not let everything get you down because like the saying goes, "**** happens". My roommate actually had his 2001 GSXR1000 jacked from the parking lot last year. Its sad that small college towns are getting overrun by theifs and crack heads and I can't even park my car in the parking lot without having to worry about getting my stock wheels stolen . Talked to someone from AllState this morning and they said they would try to get an adjuster out here tomorrow. I told them that I was planning on going out of town tomorrow and they said to go ahead and order the new wheels through Nissan and they would reimburse me after the adjuster was able to look at the car. Guess we will see how this all works out.
bummer - look on the bright side you get to buy new rims!
I think the butler did it!
