You didn't get water in your motor. The exhaust doesnt suck water or air for that matter. Unless the water somehow got through the bumper and up the intakes.

If your intake filter boxes where dry then your car didn't hydro-lock. The intakes would have to be completely submerged in water to hydro-lock your engine, and engine then you would have to be atleast at a moderate rpm to pull water all the way into the engine, and still be turning fast enough to bend the valves when the pistons try to compress the water. You would have to go flying threw a huge puddle at WOT to get that to happen, which you said you did not do.

The other possibility is that if your engine was warmed up, driving through a cold puddle cooled the block and exhaust manifold too quickly cracking the block.

Any other details of what happened would help us out...?

BTW, Avoid puddles like the plague... I hope for your sake it was dark when this happened, because in daylight you should be able to tell that a puddle is deep enough to swallow your Z. Come on man...

I agree. 1.5ft of water is not enuff to hyrdolock anything.
1.5ft is prob barely to to the top of your grill if that.

I love the post about the 07's having that problem.

Kidding... I'm puzzled to how it killed the engine.

yaaa i doubt its hydro locked but who knows.

can i ask why you thought it was a good idea to drive the car in this small lake?

by the way, weather advisory for flash floods state "Be advised for rapidly rising water. Do not attempt to cross fast moving water or and don't drive through water that you cannot see the bottom of."

translation- dont drive through water if you cant see the pavement. you may not always know how deep it is. but you have no excuse since you KNEW that it was up over the hood.
