Default tire TSB = = > scraped wheels (long)

Took my Z to the dealer to have the alignment checked, at 6800 miles my tires showed only very slight wear - told the service writer NOT to remove and rotate the tires as the TSB states because of minor wear, he agreed. Picked up car only to find they rotated the tires and scraped both front wheels around the diameter when they dis-mounted and mounted tires.
Initially the service manager said they would repair them, I said not interested, then he agreed to replace them, now he says he can't replace them only repair them (new wheels cost too much).
The dealer body shop is going to do the repair, I'm REALLY not comfortable with this solution, do you guys think NNA can/will help any - - the wheels aren't real bad but the fact remains I ask them not to mess with them and they still did it - - should I push for new wheels or try the repair and see how it looks?? HELP

why is it that dealers and places like sears are always scratching the edges of wheels? do they not have the right equipment? when you go to higher end shops, this does not happen. when i got rims from the tirerack, this did not happen. is it when the tire is taken off or mounted on? i hate the idea of replacing tires for this reason. but its inevitable.

Have them repair the wheels. You will not notice if they are done properly and they owe that to you. On top of that, I would ask for something for your trouble of having to come back for a second repair that they are at fault for. Maybe some free oil changes or a parts discount coupon off your next purchase. They are only obligated to bring the car back to the condition it was in when you brought it to them and a good wheel repair shop can make scraped wheels look like new. I would also ask for a cool loaner while they do the work like the new Maxima or an FX45/35, Murano or G35C. Good luck, but I'm sure it will all work out in the end. At least they are taking fault for their mistake...something other dealers have been ***'s about.

The 350's wheels are very hard to work with and experience with tough rims is a must. Take a look at the wheel (18") and compare it to any other wheel out there. Notice how it does not sit on the tire, but comes back out away from the tire? I dont know why Nissan did this because it is causing mounting and dismounting problems. There is also a little lip (run your finger over the edge and you will feel it) from then the rims are machined. It is this little lip that is getting scraped. It does not even need to be scraped. If something just rubs on this lip with pressure while they streatch the tire, it will damage the paint.

I'm not convinced the repair will not make a bad situation worse, he offered to replace the wheels, now he wants to repair them - He (service manager) admitted they aren't going to do any more Z wheels until they get a new wheel/tire machine - seems like admitting guilt to me?

Default Dealership usually = sloppy work

Been to the dealership twice - expirenced sloppy work.

1st time - Some black grease on the headliner near the driver side door - I looks like someone grabbed the upper door area w/ greasy fingers. Rest of the job was ok. Dealer ordered the window repair kit and stated they would call me when it came in. Wondered how I got a copy of the TSB - I said Santa..

2nd time - Kit came in:

5 business days later (on the phone):
Serv Mgr: We have your window repair kit
Me: for both windows?
Serv Mgr: No, just for the passenger side
Me: Didn't you notice the grease on the drivers side - since you were sitting in side the car and rolled down the windows?
Serv Mgr: Nope
Me: you must be blind then - there is enough crisco on the window to cook fires.
Serv Mgr: I did what you asked.
Me: Then do this...... Order another kit and call me when it comes in. Ohh and BTW - I want you to inspect my front tires too I'm feeling some tire hop at low speeds....

Stay tuned - So when I go in I will ask them to be extra careful with the rims

I don't mean to start any fights here, but I read what you wrote and it sort of shocked me. See, I believe that if you want someone to do something for you, you should be polite, courteous and appreciative. Being understanding of the other person's point-of-view helps, too. I'm of the opinion that when you're somewhat patronizing and condescending, the other person won't give you 100%.

I agree with you Wash,

I am not trying to be smart either, but I am convinced that this is the reason 95% of the people on this board are having trouble with the dealers.

The best way to get a person to do the opposite of what you want is to be rude to them.

Well first of all the Service Mgr kept giving me a hard time about having copies of the TSB - that it's not my job to bring TSB to their attention. I mean excuse me but after paying 34k for my dream car - I expect things to be done right the 1ST time w/ quality results. Which I did not receive from day one - hell they sold my car that I ordered and they had to step me up @ their cost back on 1/25. Second, I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance and they left my car sitting there for over an hour - no one told me they were backed up.

That's an interesting attitude given the picture in your signature.

I do agree though (with the attitude).

LOL What's so interesting?

I didn't pose in the pic and its not my message. I just htought it was pretty funny, especially with some people's outlooks here. Or are you referring to the animation of an Iaido kata?

I treat everyone with respect and courtesy; sometimes even after they refuse to show me the same. Usually, though, if someone is pretty rude to me, I'm not inclined to offer them much consideration. I just figure most people feel that way. When someone is abrasive, people aren't as willing to help him out...
