Default Modifying A Leased Vehicle?

so, last sunday i went to a special event at the drag strip,
and it just suddenly hit me where i missed all the fun action at the races.

after seeing two S2000's running 15's, i thought wow, I could do better than that.

its been awhile since I have gone, and unfortunately i didnt run my Z.

but, im thinking i should get some time slips for next time, but my Z is bone stock and its a lease.

any ideas what would happen if i modded a lease?

Dont do anything, that you cant change back overnight. Mine's a lease that I'm buying out next month. As far as performance, I just went with basic bolt-ons. I asked the dealer when I put the wing on and they said it was fine, just stay away from messing with the engine. If you plan on turning it in, I wouldn't do too much.

I think I would truly stay away from doing too much to a leased vehicle. Especially if you going to give it back. Stick with simple things you can change back to stock like Joey P said.

the only thing you should do if anything is rims and tint and maybe a intake. and maybe exhaust.

You can play with it but be prepaired to return it completly to stock. if you leave holes or anything like that they will have you pay to reurn to full stock.. its fine for bolt ons though.. go hard.. just be carefull..

Its kind of a waste if you dont buy your leased vehicle if you mod it.. So you basically spent all that money on something like wheels, but they may not fit right on your future vehicle after your lease is over.

i modified my leased vehicle before. intake, exhaust, antenna, tint, sway and tie bars. everything was bolt on and removable. they didn't mind the tint though when i returned it, they actually liked it with it.

unless your work is paying for the lease, then stop wasting your money. if you like the Z, and care to have it for a few more years.... just go buy one. Your payment will be probably the same as the lease, but you will own it. On the other hand, Leases are nice, drive the non rev up around for a bit then go hop in the new '07 on the drop of a dime... But watch out when you give it back, because you'll end up buying that ***** from them because they will try to stiff you.

I moded my Del-Sol back in the day. Springs, Cam's, ECU, Bored Throttle body, Header and Cat Back. When the lease was up I just took off the after market wheels and put back on the stockers. No one even cared.

A lease means that you are renting the car. You do not own it, and therefore, you really do not have a right to do anything to it. Eventually, you will need to return it to the owner (assuming you do not buy it out at the end of the lease term).

If you do decide to mod it but do not buy it out, keep all your stock parts.

not true.. you can modify a lease vehicle, just make sure you take any bolt-ons or wheels off before you turn the car in. I lease and have already got tint and installed a new stereo. I plan on getting intake and exhaust soon, that I will take off and sell prior to returning it to the dealer, hopefully getting back a good portion of the investment. Just get the mods early on in your lease so you will get the most out of them before removing and selling them. I wouldn't do any major engine mods though. i.e. turbo, cams, etc.

2cents.

Twin turbo kit wouldn't be a bad idea.

also, even if you end up not buying out the lease, if the car is in good condition at the end of the term (or anytime before the end for that matter) and you can find a buyer for the car you can broker the deal for your lease company.

the lease company/bank just wants their money (the buyout amount on your lease contract) and they don't care where they get it from. also, if you happen to sell it for more than they want you keep the difference and also avoid the end of lease termination fee.

in other words, if you do mod it make sure it's something you either can undo like others have said OR that you'll buy it yourself at the end OR find a third-party buyer for it (in this case stick with mods that would be generally popular). you do have options.

I modded my last lease. It was all bolt on stuff and springs and headers. The list kept getting longer. I always said I was gonna put it back to stock. But then that day came when I should start getting it ready for turn in and I didnt feel like doing all the work.

My advice is "dont do anything to a leased car". (except rims) Its not worth it.

ill tell you this much, if u have the patiance to put it back to stock then i say go for it. one thing that i wouldnt do at all is go FI. when i had my car i had intake/exhaust, tints and rims. the rims were the easies because the theives did the job for me. the exhaust i did the intallation myself and removed it myself. the intake was a pain in the butt. i installed it but i paid to have it removed cuz didnt feel like doin it. the worst are the tints. i got a ticket so i had to remove the 2 side ones and i tell you... it was the worst mod to remove lol. i had the rest taken off at the tint shop for 35 bux cuz there was no way in hell i was going to even attempt to try the hatch or the 2 small windows. would i mod a lease? Yes. but only simple bolt-ons that i can do myself or that wont cost alot to be done.
