Thats Bull ****, any good dealership will give you a rental anyway. When I was having problems with my clutch pedal they got me into rental for 4 days and I didn't pay ****. But who cares about the rental, they should give you a new Z.
dont pay for anything! you can easily take this to the media and nissan north america knows this; that is a huge danger issue and would be published, NNA would accomodate you, knowing this

Depends on the state. In Texas you only have 3 days.

Dealers also have a few loaner cars normally.

Call Nissan of America, in my experience CS gets things done, and dealerships fear them enough to do what ever they say.
Nissan of America has been very good to me in the past

that air bag depature could have caused serious injury if not death. I would remind them of that, and give them your lawyers card at the same time. I wouldn't let them work you over on this one, it sounds to me that the reps taking care of you might lack experience, and have underestimated the seriousness of a claim of this manner. I would move up the chain and speak to their boss, or their bosses boss.

Given the age of the car from when it was driven off the lot, I would expect Nissan to cover all of my expenses caused by the mishap (for example the cost of a rental in the form of a courtesy car).
On the positive side though, at least it wasn't the airbag in the steering wheel.

and i agree they should as well but technically they are not obligated to do so.
I wouldnt say **** to them. Call your lawyer and have your lawyer take care of it. In the end Nissan will have to pay for your lawyer to. I wouldnt take a car back after something like that. Only 4 days with the car. Now you have to fight over a car rental, then there going to look for any reason to blame it on you. F all that headache go to your lawyer.
Wouldnt that make it a Lemon?
Edit... why would the dealership pay for a rental?? It wasnt technically the dealerships fault.... I would say if you looking for someone to cover the cost of the rental I would talk with NNA to get that issue resolved. If they refuse to help you then I would get a lawyer.

Lawyers, other than for advice on the law(if they are familiar with it), are just going to raise the stakes for everyone at this point, including you. Your state's consumer protection dept. of the State Attorney General should send you in the right direction. I'd have asked for a free car until Nissan NA could inspect.
Your state's laws govern returns of new goods, but common and business sense should govern what the dealership should do. Make sure all know that you are determined, willing to go to the press(this is a newsworthy occurrence), have already discussed your options on line with the biggest Z forum in the world, and their response to you will be nationally known.
I would certainly let them know that your wife/significant other/self now has misgivings about that particular car whose malfunction could have caused serious injury or death according to the bold label on the visor right in front of one's face. A different car may be necessary to solve this unsolicited psychological trauma.
Good luck on your adventure and keep us up to date.
