I would go with the 07 or 08. Dont like buying used sports cars. Lord knows what the previous owners did to the car. I know many people that have the older Z's with FI and end up having more problems in the long run. If you have a car that is not meant to be Turbo/Supercharged from the factory and start adding a bunch of bolt on's the problems are going to start coming. Why do you think that most people mod there Z's with FI and down the line end up selling? Your best bet is an 07 and go with minimal mods. Later on down the line by a car that is made turbo from the factory and is made to handle more boost and extra bolt on's.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.

But I took out 07 6MT and 06 6MT. They both to me had the same feeling of Power.

Only thing I was able to do was hit 7500RPM Vs 7000RPM. The get up and go was the same to me.

and I did not like that Fugey hood on 07.

My 06 feels the same to me. And only thing I have done is K&N Air Filter and Oil Filter with M1 5-w30.

Don't you think if the HR Eng was all that better nissan would have been able to pull more HP then just hp6? I mean really.

The HR makes more than 6 hp over the DE.

The SAE HP rating changed, getting stricter. Under the old rating the HR would have made around 320-325 HP.

I had an 04 with JWT pop charger, AAM angled spacer, Helix TP's, Borla TD's and Nismo FW. My current car is as quick as my former was on street tires, and after the clutch issue is resolved, it may come close to my 04's best time on DR's, while the 07 is still stock.

I walys snicker when people say it only makes 6 more hp, because the old rating was not on par with the current rating.

Dude, im a revup fan of the 06 motor , more then the usual. But to say they feel the same is really not knowing what your saying. I love the 06 engine, but the HR makes 80 percent of its power before we reach our power band. Did you know that?. Also having my close friend have one , try racing one and seeing the progression fot he VQ. its preety outstanding . Now modded its a diff story. But stock for stock your cannot compare a peak motor like the VQ35DER to the best balance of HP and TQ yet on a VQ with the HR. To say they feel the same is really not to understand what you have undearneath the hood.

Also some FYI the 06s where rated under different regulations , under current ratings we actually have 293 buddie and even less TQ which is common for revup motor.

I took both cars out on same back roads. IMO I was not able to feel that much of power diverse. I floored it in 1st & 2nd gears and to me” they both hit 0-80mph in same time.

If the 08 feels better to me.. Right now I will go and trade in my 06 for 08.

But you can't tell me what I should feel or did not feel, after I drove both on same roads

OMG fail.

ANY previous to '07 Z can't come close in stock performance to the '07/'08's. It's been PROVEN (NOT by some ricer butt-dyno) on the track, with the HR motor out-trapping and out-ETing (if that's even a word) the DE engines by a HUGE margin.

Lay down the pipe.

Why would you mod a DE if you want to stay N/A...esp when a HR is on the cards....

If FI is your desire go DE
If NA is your desire go HR (and wait a bit)

+1 thank you for somebody pointing this out. I just bought an 07 and plan to mod it. But I will mod it after the warrenty runs out. In case the car is a lemon and such. It would be stupid to buy a brand new car and void its warrenty.

I say go 07, wait for the car to not be under warrenty, wait for the mods to come out ect.

To me, it's either MY05 or MY07+

I'd avoid a used 06 entirely on the fact you might get an oil-burning engine. Two of the three people I know with 06s are on their second motors and still burning oil. Both of them bought BMWs, ironically. The third person with a non-oil-burning car drove the living snot out of the car the day he got it, which probably sealed the rings in well.

'sides, there's nothing wrong with having the latest version of the car. The only differences only make the car better (the hood bump is subjective) and I doubt Nissan would sell a worse car than before.
