You havent driven a Z yet? Well if you can wait another year, do it. Not that the Z is sooo expensive, on the contrary actually, its what makes it such an awesome car. However, ONCE you drive one, you will NOT be able to wait another year, you WILL sell your scion, you WILL buy a Z, 03' through 07, wont matter, theyre all so damn fun and you WILL mod it. IMO, I think in ALL our opinions, do it. Buy one and prepare to have the most fun you've ever had behind the wheel of a car....

I think it really depends on a lot of things. I bought an 03' and have no issues at all with tire feathering or oil consumption. You just cant buy it from someone who doesnt break it in properly or didnt take care of it, like a lease car.

but if i WERE to get say an '04, or '06, is that the kiss of death? how common are the problems, mainly the 06 oil consumption problem? after reading posts it seems like it probably plagues every single '06 model, but i would doubt this is the case

also is there any difference in the '04.5 models with the vin ending in T16xxxxxx and Mxxxxxx ? and is there any notable difference in even the '04.5 and '05?

thanks
This might help:

another 06 6MT with 12,5XX miles and no problems!

PS: I had an 05 flint mica 5spd tC with Injen intake, TRD exhaust, Creative compacts short shifter, toyo proxes 4's and a few other things here and there. I sat in my friends Z on a monday, test drove one on Wednesday of that same week, and bought it the next day, 14 months ago and don't miss my tC! YOU WILL LOVE THE Z!

06, MT, GT with 12,800 and "no" oil consumption problems. Put a Stillen Stage 2, CAI and True Dual on about 1K ago. Still great.....not a drop. I do use 5W30 mineral base Valvoline at 3k miles or 3 months religiously!! I know, I know...folks are advocates of synthetic but I change it frequently for best protection.

I love my ride!

i may go with an 04.5/05 not only to be safe, but to avoid oil consumption problems. theres probably a better chance of me getting a used '06 with a problem rather than a used '05 with a problem (or 04.5)

why are some of you saying wait a year? i wont be able to afford an '07 in a year.. well unless i save up a few extra thousand.. and thats just more time for more '06 owners to get tired of their problems and want to sell it and for the bulk of '04.5 and '05 models to get too many miles on them.. right?

and i want a manual transmission

ive already seen that graphic. but one would think it was made soon after the '06 models came out, because theres no '07 and because of the shining scores of the '06 across the board because not enough time has gone by to show problems

Same here. Love the smoothness of my 06' MT. Sometimes I wonder how people drive and take care of there car to have so much shi$^y issues. I ride with some people and they drive like their car like they're in such a rush to stop (if you know what I mean). Quick take offs, sudden and last minute stomps on the brakes. It irritates me.

im suspecting that i do have oil consumption problems on my 06... will the dealer mess up my car if i have them replace it w/ a hand-built one from japan? trying to determine that before my 3 yr warranty runs out... what is considered consumption?

06 enthusiast here. 7k miles without a problem except for the damn loud transmission when in neutral after a long drive. I have owned a turbo civic, turbo celica, evo, and wrx. Never had buyer's remorse with the 350z, but had it with all the other cars
