Would not buy an 06 , but 03 to 05 is fine. The 03's had the tranny issue , and if its bad it had been replaced with the same tranny the 06's have. The feathering issue, well thats just a simple alignment, many 03's had that problem , and even 08's can have that problem. They all have the same suspension ( spring rates different) and if they alignment is out , the tires feather.

The '04.5 model year's very reliable, too. Not so with the 2004 one, though. As a general rule, stay away from the '03, '04 and '06. Regardless of how you treat her during break-in, there's a definite pattern on the '06 year model, concerning oil-consumption.

Mine, on the otherhand loses a quart evey 1000 miles. See the difference? I lose more than 60% of my oil by 3500 miles, when it's time to change it again.
To top that off, I'm on the 3rd engine that Nissan has put in the Z. There's only about 20K miles on it, and I'm still losing oil. Bout to get a new car soon...

I buy a 350z 2005 2 months ago. I changed the oil the day that I buy the car. 3 weeks later I checked the oil level and it was empty. I taked the care to the dealer, it was in the warranty. (power train warranty in motor and transmission 5 years or 60,000 miles)
They change my entire engine because of the oil comsumption. 3 weeks ago the car has the new engine, in the break in, less than 700 miles I checked the oil level and it was empty again. I take it to the dealer and they said it comsume oil because the engine was new, bla bla bla. They changed oil and filter and gave me the car. Today, less than 500 miles from the oil change, the car is EMPTY AGAIN!!!!
A new engine I will take it to the dealer again.
2005 and 2006 have this problem.

2005 and 2006 have this problem.
I have a very early built 2006. I think my build date is 11 or 12 of 2005. I only have 7500miles on it and do baby it. I have never had any oil issues, *knock on wood*! I heard it was a ring issue but Nissan never admits! Do a serious check on any car you would plan to purchase.
And no, it's not a complete engine swap, btw. They'll just replace the longblock. Everything else will remain the same parts that originally came with the car.
I'm on Block #3 now...

Yes the 2005 is the one with virtually no problems.
My suggestion is to just wait another year and get a used 2007. The car is depreciating pretty fast and at the same time you are saving more money. Definitely worth the wait because of the warranty, the new engine, better gas mileage, and the bump on the hood looks sooo damn good
In my area, I see over thirty 2006 Z's on sale. I guess all the owners were fed up with the oil consumption so they rather pay like $5000 more to trade in for the new 2007 (or because winter is coming)

If you can afford it get the 07 model - open up the hood and check it has two air filter/intakes (all two previous versions have one air intake) as over here in the Uk we have had many rev up models registered in 2007, mistakenly advertised as the latest HR model which they are not. One thing to bear in mind is only people with oil problems will post .. meaning there will be many people with perfectly running rev up motors who wouldn't post to say "my oil levels are fine" and from my observation it is only a very small minority affected. However if you do get the issue and if it turns out to be really bad Nissan should fix the "issue" because it is publicised by Nissan themselves in their faults/action list (even if it is out of warranty). Up to you which you get. I personally went for the 05 model mainly due to the fewer faults/action list issued by Nissan. I would have gone for the 2007 HR model but couldn't afford it at the time.
