I was driving down 17th street about to cross the 55, in Newport Beach last night. I'm in the right lane going straight, the left 3 lanes turn left. I'm checking my mirror and notice some bright HID lights coming my way. This area is good for checking out cool cars, its not uncommon to see a Ferrari or Viper driving down the road. Only this car I don't recognize at first, I have a bad angle and just see what looks like a big hood scoop and a low front facia. Next I notice the cross drilled brake rotors and the big Brembo brakes. I as I scan back I'm thinking, what the hell is this? As the car pulls up next to me I see the "Z" logo on the side. I'm like damn! nice Z. I motion for the guy driving to roll down his window. I ask him "Hey man, nice Z!, what kit is that?" He said (Stillen) I asked "What's with the hood"? He said that the car was supercharged. I asked if he worked for Stillen. He said no, he was a writer for Road and Track and was testing the car out. I asked him if he had any numbers, he said that he didn't have any numbers yet, but will be testing the car the next day.

Look for Super Charged Chrome Silver Z in you up and coming issues of Road & Track Magazine. I can't wait to find out what kind of the numbers the car will post.

 

I never knew Road and Track tested aftermarket cars? or atleast put them on the cover...

 

That's exactly what I was thinking....

 

hm...i think they will test tuned cars sometimes. like a few months ago, they tested a whole slew of honda FP cars (i guess it's not really aftermarket)...and i think they've tested some famous aftermarket cars before.

 

How did you notice the cross drilled rotors and big brembo brakes
when the car was behind you?

You could tell what the brakes were but not the car?

So what did it sound like? Loud whine from the blower or was it quiet?

 

actually r&T has tested supercharged miatas, civics, preludes and maximas over the years.

I think steve millen pays them off. I do remember a couple greddy turbo articles tho...

 

additionally they've tested both Dinan and RMS supercharged Bimmers.
