Default Possible 350Z buyer. Questions.

I am looking at the Performance model with 6 sp because the initial out of pocket cost is less (plus leather seats included).

I may add the Brembos in the future (or similar brakes) and get new rims (if I need to replace the stock rims for any reason).

What is the problem with the Bose sound system? Can I fix it by replacing the amplifier and the speakers?

What is the problem with the suspension (example)?

Is it expensive to get insurance (Toronto based)?

Is it possible to replace the brakes with Brembos in the future (how much)?

Is it expensive to service it?

Is it friendly for every day car (yes I know it’s a coupe and rear visibility sucks but other than that? I am not planning to use it as a daily drive at first but maybe 2 years down the road...).

Any major problems with the car?

To quickly summarize for you....

Performance does not include leather seats...unless perhaps you're in Canada, which I guess you are.... Uh, next question

Bose sound system - audio pilot microphone automatically makes adjustments to the volume, based upon the speed and ambient noise in the car. Great idea in concept, doesn't work in reality. The volume changes at odd tiems as if a ghost turned the dial. Second complaint, the bass is overpowering. Third complaint would probably be the overall sound quality. There is a TSB out which replaces the amp...supposedly helps some. Also, modifying the microphone is purported to improve things. In addition, this is supposed to all be addressed as manufacturing progresses. We'll see.

Suspension - no problems for me, but some report bouncing. Again, this is an individual thing, I think the car bounces some, but I'm willing to accept it. I do not think it is a flaw in the suspension.

Insurance - sorry, check with your local carrier. My insurance in CT isn't that bad...

Brembos - there are multiple brands of brakes to get if you want to have aftermarket replacements. Some would include, but are not limited to, AP, Stoptech, Alcon, Brembo. All are probably fairly equivalent, and all fairly expensive. Expect at least $2000 for fronts, likely around $4000-5000 possibly for all four wheels. G35 brakes apparently fit also. Keep in mind the non-Brembo brakes are plenty good unless you're going for track performance (fade is an issue) or looks.

Service - This is in the end a mass produced Nissan. It shares the same engine as just about every other car out in the Nissan lineup and shares a lot of the body and suspension with the G35. I don't think service will be any more than the average Maxima or Pathfinder. At least I hope not.

Daily driver - This is currently my daily driver. Once you get used to the view, it's not bad. I'm a paranoid parker, which limits where I bring the Z, and some have found themselves the targets of vandalism. Then again, my friend's 86 Honda Prelude has been keyed also, so some of it is totally random. The biggest problem with the car being a daily driver is that on stock tires, it does not handle snow at all. It could essentially be considered non-driveable in the lightest snow. However, some have had success with the Z on snow tires. I've never done it, I hope I don't have to. Obviously, snow tires would be an additional expense.

Major problems - debatable. This is a first generation vehicle, and there are bound to be some problems. Some people have been through multiple transmissions, some have had clutch issues, there are a few unwanted squeaks. I think overall, for a first year car, it's been very good. The engine is bulletproof, I don't think anybody has had any issues with it. As to the others, I'm not sure what to say. I would guess that the vast majority (90%+) have had no major issues.

Good luck. Hope this helped.
