. They should teach this as a rule of thumb in driving school. To the original poster, sorry about your accident man, good luck with resolving the matter.

This is correct. I think you may be a fault. Were you cited?
A 2 car following distance is only good at very low speeds. Appropriate distance would be to use the 2-3 second rule.
From the observed damages and your post...
Following too closely.
Speed to fast for conditions.
Inexperience driving your particular vehicle (guesstimating there, considering your join date and the vehicle still displaying paper dealer tags).
No harm, no foul. You are alive. Get a new car and learn from this mistake.

Anyone else notice that it still looked to have the dealer setup, aka no plates in the back?
Looks as if he didn't have the car for long. Oh and if stopping on an on ramp is bad, how about slamming on the brakes in the middle of a tollway that is doing 80 mph because you missed the exit ramp. Thats what one person thought she should do in front of me about 6 months ago. I nearly got owned by a 18 wheeler :/ But I didn't hit her...
Stay back and drive careful. I as the others have said am surprised you where not cited for failure to maintain speed, or wreckless driving.
Want to know about the driver that stopped in the middle of the tollway... Well she in her wise wisdom backed up to the exit... I was hoping she got hit, but then that would mean someone else would get hurt by her stupidity. And yeah stopping that hard and quick in my truck warped the 12 year old rotors...
