Well, who ever made it mis-stated the torque at 247 lbs-ft rather than the real number of 274....ok I'm ready to go home from work now...hehe!

I can't believe Nissan would stoop so low as to auction it off on Ebay. If the're gonna do that then why not just hold a charity event, tickets $50.00 ea and make his $$$ that way. Just seems a little low-rent to me. Maybe something KIA or Hundai would do.

It does appear to be a legit Nissan auction, from the looks of it. I was going to post about it earlier today, but have been too busy with work. There are ad-banners on ebay about this auction, I'm not certain if any user has the option to promote their items as banners on ebay's site, but recall seeing other official auctions from music groups or corporations advertised in similar fashion, which would also explain the 0 user rating due to the fact that these companies have to setup user IDs for the first time.

It kind of reminds me of the BMW X5 auction a couple years back where the winning bidder would receive the first X5 in the U.S. for about 2-3 weeks until they started appearing at dealers. The proceeds went to a charity & from what I recall the winning bid was around $140,000. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 350Z go for over $100,000. Is August 19, the official U.S. launch of the Z?

It just says the auction starts the 19th. It could go up until the actual official launch date (Aug 25-26 I think). I hope they plan to give the proceeds to charity. I guess it could be good publicity for them if its sold for $100,000+ and the media writes articles about people being so excited about the Z that the first one sold for XXX.

You have a good memory
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As online auctions expand into veritable sideshows and novelty acts, BMW has placed its new sports utility vehicle on eBay in an effort to drive sales and build notoriety.

BMW's new X5 Sports Activity Vehicle went up for auction this morning, about 42 days before the vehicle will be widely available for sale through BMW's regular distribution channels. The auction runs through November 7th, and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The auction is the last, and perhaps most famous, of BMW's 1999 events to raise money and awareness for the Komen Foundation. The fund-raising campaign has generated more than $3 million (US$) for the foundation over the past three years.

The BMW auction is a highlight for eBay's relatively new automotive category. Launched in August, the automotive site currently has more than 2,000 cars, 10,000 parts and 7,000 motorcycles on sale.

eBay also gets a plug from the BMW site, which links visitors to the X5 auction page. BMW also provides a link to the Komen Foundation's site, a running counter of time left to bid on the vehicle and the current bid price.

The tag was in the $67,000 range Friday morning. Bidding for the vehicle started at $1. The winning bidder must pay 10 percent of the final bid amount within 48 hours of the close of the auction to secure the bid.

The suggested retail price of the vehicle for sale on eBay is $57,105, which includes delivery and some extra features, such as an on-board navigation system and a moon roof, that are not standard on the models that will debut in showrooms later this year. Those models start at $49,970.

The auctioned vehicle also comes with a free trip to BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina Performance Center. The winning bidder will get an orientation to the new vehicle, a tour of the BMW manufacturing plant and a visit to the BMW Zentrum museum.

The winner will also get specialized driving instruction on the Performance Center's paved and off-road test-drive courses.

I think it's pretty cool as long as the proceeds are going to charity. Those damned retarded Segway HT's auctioned off for over $100,000 a piece on ebay. I love what Tina Fae said on SNL about the Segway: "Dean Kamen with his Segway HT has totally revolutionized the way people will be hit by cars!" LOL

I feel much better now. Just wouldn't want to be the one who owns it. First one out of the box is bound to have more quality problems. When I think about it though, whoever purchases it will probably be storing it away without any miles put on it. That means they don't even have the opportunity to have the NAV door open and come flying off.

If I had the money, and a wife who wouldn't divorce me for spending it on this, I would happily go to $100K for this car and then drive it from whereever it was delivered to my garage and then put it away for good.

I just got this email and it look legit. Sorry if this has been posted already:

Because you've expressed interest in the new Z®, here's
another Z® you're going to want to know about: the one,
the only 2003 Nissan 350ZTM, VIN #000001, that's being
auctioned for charity on eBay.

The auction runs from August 19 to August 29 at eBay.com/z.
Come August 30, some very lucky, highly-envied bidder will
be the owner of a vehicle worthy of the most distinguished
car collections in the world, with the VIN# to prove it.

Starting right now, you can warm up for the auction by
visiting eBay.com/z and checking out this very special Z®.
Once the auction starts on the 19th, be sure to check
back often to see where the bidding stands. Perhaps
even make a bid of your own.

Either way, you'll be a part of history.

I went ahead and replied to the email asking for info on my VIN rather than VIN00001, I know nothing will come of it but it felt good.

I got the same email, but assumed it came from eBay. I have been looking for 350Z stuff on eBay for quite a while now. I am sure NNA doesn't have a clue that I exist, even though I am in the preorder program.

In fact I am sure they don't know I exist. I have filled out the form on the Nissandrive.com website requesting more information on the 350Z three times and have't gotten a single thing from them
