How long did your "new car" smell last?
They actually make a "new car scent" that you can spray in cars. Once, when trading in an old car that had a musty smell, I bought some and sprayed just enough into the car to barely detect it. I'm sure the estimator at the dealer's didn't really notice it, but subconsciously he would have equated it with a newer, cleaner car. Sounds like a dealer trick, doesn't it?

I've had my car for 9 months and have just over 5k miles. Just 2 days ago a friend of mine hops in the car and made mention that the car still has it's new car scent. I must admit I'm pretty **** about the cleanliness of my vehicles. Dr. Bonz has turned me on to Zaino products and as soon as summer arrives in NY maybe I can start putting some on. Protected from the elements, she sits patiently waiting for the rain to stop. As for the new car smell, I can only attribute it to the fact I never let anyone smoke, eat, drink, etc. anywhere near the car.
Cheers.

I've had my Z for over 4 months now and my friends always say I still have that new car smell in it, but for some reason I really can't smell somethings...it's weird, maybe it's because I'm in it so often I just don't notice it anymore?

technically the smell is not leather I dont think, its actually a toxic coating they put on the car for transit. its actually harmful to inhale, but we associate it with new cars so we like it. but I dont think its the natural oils at all.

i didn't put on the leather conditioner for about a month... the smell was going away.. then when i applied it overnight and let it set.. i had a "new car" smell when i took it out the next morning. I dunno.. just my experience. I've heard others in the bimmer forums using other, expensive leather conditioners which produces similiar to that of a new car smell. BTW.. i use Meguiars
This is what ppl use at bimmerforums use
Its highly praised there.. but too expensive for me

I have the leather and I haven't treated it yet. It's been since November. Last Friday I took a guy from work for a spin and the very first thing he said when he was getting in was "It smells good in here". And nothing, nothing, get's smoked or eaten in my Z!!
