I enjoy the track days. However, I can understand people not wanting too especially those with car payments since the car is not insured at the track.

man speaks the truth. Race and/or speed tests are not covered under the OAP1 in Ontario. For more information, consult your local underwriter and be safe out on the track.

^^^I've been pondering on this dilema for sometime. There must be an insurance company out there that will insure cars for track use.

Why not offer track day package. Like if I want to race my car over the weekend, I can pay hummm ..$200 for the two days. They will make a killing cause most ppl don't crash. Plus, the driver's will become better drivers and thus less accidents in the public streets.

PS. I do track my car.

He works for NissanSports. Trust me, they promote tracking your vehicles.

Actually, HPDE are covered by some insurance. As long as it's not a timed event, it's considered driver training/education. You're not racing if there's no timer involved. Every HPDE I've been to has been very clear about the "no racing" rules. While some companies may specifically exclude HPDEs, I know for a fact that State Farm does not and I'm sure there are many more.

exactly....my nearest 1/4 mile track is another state away, plus ghey toll booths and traffic.

I autoX and do the 1/4 mile.

Road course, with NASA, and open track days. I blame David Muramoto, who organized track instruction days here in Colorado for my new addiction. OP should know who David M is...

I really want to take my Z to a track... quarter mile runs I am not too interested in, I more want to do a road course/ circuit type of thing, just to get a real feel for what this car can do handling wise.

What stops me: the car is my baby, I do not want to risk having it hurt or destroyed in a recreational outing. Its not payed off, and its my only nice car, and I want to keep it that way. Someday I may be baller enough to afford an used Z just for track purposes, but until then I am keeping my car pristine!

A little birdy once told me that many tracks have a one day insurance policy. May be worth looking into I've never confirmed it myself.

My Z is my "baby" too. Daily driving has put more damage on her than any day on the road course. I still obsessively detail it and get regular compliments on how good it still looks.

Track days are not about beating up on your car. There will be guys out there with $100K+ Porsches & Ferraris and they don't want theirs damaged any more than you or I. An organized HPDE is about safely driving your car "at speed" while protecting you and the car from any damage.

I never have been on a track but I would love to, this summer. See how it corners without potholes, cats, dogs, people, traffic, speed limits, cops, etc.
