Only time doing other stuff while driving a stick would be an issue is if your in stop-go traffic which requires constant shifting.

Even than you can take a sip of a drimk or change a radio station.

Just drinking and talking on the cell phone really, and thats only in stop and go type stuff(city driving). Just like an auto when you're not changing speeds. Though since you're just starting out I'd try to stay away from distractions like that, especially in a manual. Don't want any foolish wrecks in this sweet car. You'll get the hang of it in time. Good luck.

I got pulled over in my town (local roads, so stop and go)
in my 90 300ZX running a stop sign while smoking a cigarette, talking on a cell phone and shifting gears.

moral of the story....... hell I don't know..... you get used to it

p.s. No ticket thanks to PBA cards....

I'd say that the thing to avoid most here is cell phone. Get a hands free or don't pick it up unless you are at a complete stop. I remember it used to freak me out when I was driving my oldie but goodie '85 Accord, back in time. As people have said, you'll get the hang of it, but be careful first. I know that Nissan's SHIFT publicity had everybody running for MTs.
