But I'm sayin since there is rarily any 91 around here.. Can I use 89 as more normal octane to fill up one?? Or should I just go after the 93?? It's good to know if I havta use 93 and I come into a station with 91 that I can mix with the 91. But if I can use the 89 I would do that. (No Flame on not having money for gas. I do.. Just for 40 cents a gallon diff.) If I can get away with 89 as my normal octane I would do that. If not. its w.e.

No flaming. Sometimes you have to pump something lower than recommended. It's okay to pump it. The ECU is also smart enough to recognize it, but if you punch the throttle with below the recommended octane, then it's asking to cause harm to the engine. Also I am sure you know that prolong uses of 89 or lower will only do harm to the engine. Again, if 89 is the only octane in the area, then anybody including me will not hesitate to pump it. There are a few uninformed people think that using octane booster would help, but it's crap if you are using it to boost the 89 octane. Octane booster usually boost a .1 of the grade.... making it something like 89.1 octane.

There is a thread where someone converted the engine to suck in carbon dixoide pollutants and it returns to the exhaust as pure oxygen and h20. pretty amazing. you can kiss your fuel consumption days goodbye!! do a search.
93 octane....PSSSH. that stuff is so old skoool.
Let us know how it goes.

I wish I even no.. I didn't mean my question in terms of saving money. I was just wondering about the effects of doing it.. I've been using 93 octane even in my turbo'd civic. So the price of the octane dsn't mean crap to me..

BTW 87 octane is typically a better fuel since it is more commonly used. 91 and higher tend to sit long and have more deposits.
For the record i personally use 91 and have been meaning to try 89 for a tank or two one of these days.

To answer OP: You can retard the timing of your car to 13 degrees to run 87/89 (any Nissan tech can do it in 1 minute). But you'd be a damn fool to purposely rob performance out of a sports car for a measly $2. In fact, I actually advanced my timing which prevents it from ever running on anything less than 91, until I have it reprogrammed back to normal.

And how do you get that done, is the performance better? no harm done?
