Default 350Z key question

I need to make a spare key. I was wondering if I can buy this key from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...ayphotohosting and have it programmed at the dealer or locksmith. But I have got few questions

1. Would this key work?

2. How much do you think a dealer would charge me to program the key and how much would a locksmith?

Just trying to find a cheaper route since I may never use the spare key.

thanks

This question was just asked yesterday, but the answer is yes; you can buy that chip key and have it cut and coded by a locksmith or the dealership. The rates depend upon each individual dealership, so you'll need to call around if you want to find the cheapest place. Fortunately, my dealership only charged $10 per key if I had the blank, but I've heard quotes anywhere from $10-200 just to code the key. I guess it just depends on how much money the dealerships/locksmiths want to profit off 5min of work.

From what I was told, some locksmiths have the same computer and programming equipment that will cut and code the keys as the dealerships.

I am sorry! I didn't see them. My thread was more specific as to " if this key will work or no". But I will look more before i make a thread next time.

Way to give a helpful response!

I've heard someone pay 180$ to get a key programmed.

i just got mine done from dealer.
i thought that chip key wouldnt work so
i called in and the service told me that i have to bring all the keys that i have and set a date to come in.
labor charge(reset the key for new and old) was around 50 dollars
Factory OEM key was 80 dollars,
plus tax and all for total i paid 140something.

i dont know if that will work or not but,
thats how much the dealer charged me, just to let u know.

and it was just for the key, not inculding the remote.

Thanks.

I am thinking about buying the key from ebay and taking it to the dealer for programmed. This way they can only rape me for one thing, not two. I am pretty sure they have jacked up their prices for a simple key like $60 maybe.

***... maybe, but taking 10 seconds to read the top 10 topics in this very forum is about the easiest thing to do. And IF the OP actually took the time to do that he would realize buying a key on ebay is nothing but a gamble and a great way to lose money. but hey, what an *** I must be for pointing him in the direction of another thread that covers ALL THIS SAME ****!!!!!!

What an *** you are for posting in this thread twice, and both times doing nothing to help the OP with his question.

On topic: Let us know how it works out.
