Here in North Texas - seems like EVERYONE drives a SUV. Can't really see me. One the drive home from the dealership (brand new!) I barely escaped getting hit - lady driving her Suburban chatting on her cell phone never saw me.

PS - I REALLY wish they would outlaw talking on a cell phone in EVERY state. NJ had the law - when I moved to TX, seems as if it is everyones right to talk and drive - dangerous as heck!

Not really. It is expensive for many due their age and history. Mine is not much more for the Z than the wifes mini-van.

If so, that's just f-ed up. The people who stopped are just as stupid as the driver who you hit. You simply don't do that on a blvd, you wait until everything is clear. Awful, man.
The driver that crossed my path just gunned it, if he had creeped out slowly I would have noticed him sooner and tried to brake + turn away from him. Instead he was smack in the middle of my lane and my front end made full contact with both his front/rear passenger doors. His front and rear quarter panels were not touched. Basically when I got the surprise, I was able to see his whole car in front me (bumper to bumper).

Since the cars on the left two lanes of me were waiting had a red light, I was difficult to see the open space they had created. If they were on a green light then I would have suspected something wrong up ahead. It was also dark at the time of the accident so the headlights might have made it that much more difficult to judge what was going on ahead.

The base rates for the Z, without any adjustments for the specific owner/driver, puts teh Z among teh 10 most expensive cars to insure.

Maybe not a total loss. It depends upon the insurance company.

Change the wheels before the adjuster sees it!

The fixed mine and my total was about 16K (just in repairs). I had 8500 miles on the car and I am sure that mattered. The way I figure they are fixing it unless replacement book book is cheaper.

sorry to hear about the loss man......i would cry if my Z was trashed.

i do, however, have a hard time figuring out what happened. who was at fault?

jim

edit - so wait.......someone was making a left turn. it was a 3 lane road and the other 2 lanes stopped at a red light. the person making the left was in the intersection before it was red/while it was red, but the OP sped through the red? i am lost.

The driver that I hit was at fault for failure to yield on his left turn to oncoming traffic basically. The car that I hit was attempting to turn into a small side street before the major intersection that the traffic was waiting on, about 100-150 feet before the illuminated overhead traffic lamp.

When my maxima was considered a loss, I had to drive up to the salvage yard (Turnersville New Jersey) and personally change the rims out (before the car was auctioned off). I was tight with the insurance company given my sore back/body, however, I didnt want to let my rims go. Best of luck to you- and for your sake, I hope they total it!
