Default Serial Numbers

Has anyone figured out why some of the VINs serial numbers start with a 0 such as 000387 and others start with a 1 such as 100387?

C'mon people, brainstorm!

You are a manufacturer and you split your product into 2 batches, one batch will start with 000000, and the other will start with 100000. Think now, why would you have to do this?

its the production #, not the ordering #. When u ordered it means nothing. They most likely produce all the same color in a row. maybe 20silver, 20red, etc.

I heard from my brother's girlfriend's dog's groomer who has a aunt that lives in Wyoming through her butcher's supplier's owner that the cars that start with a 1 are earmarked as such because they are 1 second faster in the quarter mile (or is that the ones with the 0 are 2 seconds slower). Dang, I lost track and maybe it was the grooomer's supplier's aunt whose dog lives in Iowa. Oh well, take it for what it's worth.

LOL - good one, we (they) deserved that. I couldn't care less what number is in my VIN - I'd be thrilled to have one.
