Question Is there a way to remove Track wheels without scratching lug holes?

I recently took my car in for an oil change and a clunking sound from the front left under braking. To inspect this problem, the front left wheel was removed. They tightened the swaybar on the left side and the noise is gone now.

Anyway, the problem is, there are now scrapes inside the holes where the lug nuts were removed and renistalled. Is this just something to expect? Otherwise, the wheel is fine.

Thanks,

Stu E.

Griot's Garage sells a set of plastic-coated sockets just for this purpose. Check here:

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! You would think that the dealer would use these for removal of ANY custom style wheels!

If you can get them to remove the lugs without using an impact wrench (good luck), there will be much less chance of scratching the wheel. Not to mention regular sockets are usually polished, and impact sockets are not.

Which set is the correct one? The metric or standard.

If they cared (which they probably don't) they would/could have wrapped the socket in electrical tape. I've done it to all my lug removing sockets and it works like a charm.
