What is the fairlady thing all about?
I see people putting fairlady badges on and talking about their fairlady Z what does fairlady mean?
I am getting a Z on the 23rd, going today to finalize the negotiations on my trade.

Just going by your sn, don't you have a Saronno Red Eclipse that I was uber jealous of on C3G?
I have a Saronno Red GT that I am trying to sale
Anyhoo, I think Fairlady is the Japanese version of the Z

The Fairlady badge has always been the name of the Z's in Japan. Nissan's thinking was when the 240z came out over 30 years ago that no american was going to drive a sports car named a Fairlady. So they decided to go with the engine size cause during that time period that was what americans where interested in.... the size of the engine.

Yeah the Skyline is more of a technology showpeice. Something they did with the 300ZX and another reason it wasn't as popular as the rest of the Z's. They've now gone back to the roots somewhat although technology is still a part of the 350 it's not the centre piece.
The Skyline does what it does very well but accomplishes that with brute force as apposed to finnesse. Technology reigns supreme as a extra porky sports sedan performs as well and often better then cars 200-400lbs lighter and even 30-60hp difference.

Anything in all you history buffs about where the 'fairlady' name came from, and why? Named for some goddess? Heroine?
Always been curious.

Hehe, yup that is/was my baby (2001 Eclipse). I am getting screwed on my trade so I don't think I will be modding this car too heavily except rims as always (although I say that now). My eclipse is so pretty, but I want more power and a 6-speed.
She sure is a beauty. Only 21,000 miles too. On to a Z! I go to finalize the paperwork today. They are only giving me 12,500 on the trade.
Thanks for the input on the fairlady thing guys!

Good thing Nissan wasn't a big fan of Mary Poppins! How do you like my new Mary Poppins emblem? or how about a drive in my Thoroughly Modern Millie?
I think I will stick with Z, even though BMW has tried to steal that.
