dealer fees
Invoice is what Nissan charges the dealer for the car....MSRP is what they suggest that the dealers sell the car for.
In you post above you said you had no problem paying invoice, well I'm sure none of us would since that is a few grand lower than MSRP,
but the marketing assessment fee that Nissan charged the dealership is included in their suggested selling point (MSRP).
I'm the gald this thread came up, so ppl know not to pay an additional marketing fee on top of the MSRP.
Good luck guys (and ladies)

Most of the dealers here in California are charging just MSRP, as determined on the Nissan website when you go there and configure your car. My deal is strictly the MSRP determined from the Nissandriven.com website, plus State taxes and license fees. No "advertising fee" add-ons, no dealer "markups", nor anything else. You should be able to find a dealer who will do the same.
ccns23:
In addition to the MSRP, I am paying $495 "dealer prep". Would this be the same thing as the $500 you are all discussing? I tried like hell to get them to drop it and they won't. They said that every car on their lot has this charge and not just the Z's. They made no mention of the ad/marketing fee. Now I'm worried that I am one of the suckers that is paying it twice. Am I?

Dr Bonz,
Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. But here's the skinny. The $495 charge you are getting is probably the dealers way of "marking up" the car. At my dealership, we charge a $995 "Car Care Package" which includes basically, a pinstripe and wheel locks.
They better be some damn nice wheel locks....
Anyway, a lot of dealers have this kind of charge. On a typical car on our lot, we do charge a $495 fee for the car care package. The Z just happens to be $995. I am not happy about it, and I work at the dealership. My advice, demand that they not charge the fee. If they insist, call Nissan Customer service and get an advocate. I said it before and I will say it again, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
If you push hard enough, I am sure they will wave the fee. Nissan is being very tough on dealers when the customers are unhappy. They (Nissan) have threatened to pull allocation to dealerships if there are too many customer complaints.
But you didn't hear any of this from me......
